I am new to this forum & glad i've found it - it's shocking to see how many are going through the same issues I experience with allergies, drugs and doctors.

I wrote a blog to get my story out there, read it if you wish but comment on it there if you need to...

http://www.sinusallergy.blogspot.com/

Anyway, a respected ENT in my area is about to retire.  After seeing him for years I have my final appointment with him in 2 weeks and I am going to lay it on the line:  Either I get surgery to get at the root of my sinusitis, rhinitus, or all the many things I have been diagnosed, or I give up with all the drugs and expenses.  They are not helping anyway.

I beleive now that he is about to retire, he will give me the truth and not hold anything back.  He is no longer indebted to the drug reps, he has no motivation to keep me coming back for visits, and since he is no longer doing surgeries, he can provide me with the best guy out there to do what I am looking for, a vidian neurectomy.

I will keep you posted as to what he says...

Good luck with your final meeting with the doctor. I hope that you are successful with it. However he may still insist that he was giving you the truth all along.
Two reasons for this occurred to me.
1. He really believes he was giving you the correct advice all along..or..
2. He may not admit he was giving bad advice dliberately for fear of any potential lawsuit.

Maybe getting a second opinion from the new ENT would be easier.
Good luck,
Tom

OK - saw the ENT today and he was straight up with me: Stop taking all the meds if they are not vital (Advair is vital to me). He is now admitting that my sinusitis or rhinitis may be more than just simple allergies. Although, he is still adamant that I have allergies to environmental concerns such as pollen and grasses. But he thinks now it is something more than simple sneezing attacks.

He is absolutely against a Vidian Neurectomy. He claims to have performed many and they never worked long-term. Additionally, he says many people have had eye site issues and that has scared most doctors away from the operation.

He wants all my blood tests performed all over again- REASON: He believes that a recent analysis of a CT scan shows that I might have fungus objects deep in my sinus cavities. The polyps are keeping them up there and my body is loosing the battle to get rid of them...essentially its called Fungal Sinusitis.

Anyone else been diaged w/Fungal Sinusitis?

Sinus surgery should be a last resort in that I agree with the doctor! My allegy doc says my sinus are to small and that I should have surgery and my ENT disagreed and I'm all for that!

Now back in 1996 I had strep throat, kept testing positive for strep throat so January 1997 had my tonsils removed and still tested positive for strep throat. Had three tests positive for strep throats, finally had sinusus drained August 1997 had a unsual bacterial it was sent off to cdc and was on a Iv antibotic for 3 weeks to clear up the infection, so far only had strep throat once!
Have you had your sinsus drained? sure hurts like hell at the time but might find the cause of your troubles....

Soft hugz and sure hope your feeling better soon!!!
