Hi,

Can anyone tell me if they have the following symptoms:

Swelling of the throat..I can breathe, but it gets hard to swallow and I feel like someone has their hands around my throat

Then I also get pressure in my ears and along my jaw line somewhat

It's hard to clear my throat, like I poured super glue down it

I also sometimes get an itch in my chin that is under the skin

This scares me really badly...I can't figure this out.

It has been going on since June.

I tested positive for Lyme last month, but they tell me that even though I was positive, it must be a false positive because you can't get Lyme in NC. Don't you love doctors!

Anyway, I need help ...doctors can't figure it out, I guess I am on my own.

Went to ENT and he sais looks good except my vocal chords are irriated from me having to clear my throat all the time.

I have a lot of other symptoms and have off and on since 93. I feel the Lyme is correct as positive, but I don't know if this has anything to do with that.

Oh yeah, this happens after eating and sometimes without having ate. So I really can't figure it out. Seems to be NO pattern to it.

Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!

Have you ever been tested for allergies? Food, medication or environmental?

I did do the skin test...I am allergic to all the same things that I was when I was little. Those things don't ever bother me, except for cats and dogs. The thing is when I get around cats or dogs in a house I will get that itch in my chin but then it will go to an itchy throat, watery itchy eyes, sneezing, etc.  I don't get any of that with this oter weirdness going on.

I'm sorry Katc :( I honestly don't know what it could be. Are you on any medications right now? If so, can these be possible side effects? What about acid reflux? Before I got diagnosed with it, I had a hard time swallowing too and I had a major "thickness" feeling in my throat. Like the phlegm was made of concrete or something.

Katc, the best advise I can offer up is get a new Doctor, make a list of all your symptoms, like the ones you've listed,
along with a list of everything that's been tried, like what medications you've been put on, maybe get another Lyme test done
ask for a sinus ct scan. Plus if you've not had it maybe an upper endoscope, but it's not an easy test (the endoscope) but
it would rule out stomach problems, like acid reflux or possible ulcers of the stomach...
I wish you well in whatever you should decide, but maybe another doctor would be more help...
Keep us posted and lots of soft hugz......
Hop[e your feeling better soon.....

Katc,

Lyme disease has been documented to cause difficulty swallowing. The rest of your symptoms (itchy chin, etc.) strongly suggest an allergic-type reaction, but it may not be the type that can be detected on the usual skin tests. I would urge you to post on the Lyme forum here at HealingWell - it's a great bunch of folks who post there and they can probably help you find a good doctor, too. Have you tried gargling with liquid Benadryl when these symptoms occur? It may help reduce the symptoms.

Take care,
