Hi everybody, today I'm feeling terrible and hopeless and I feel like giving up trying to fight this anxiety. Can somebody give me some hope, I just cry and cry and see my life goes by just not feeling myself. Sorry, but I feel so bad. I like coming here because I always find relief when I see how caring and helpful people are in this site. Just want to know if one day I could beat this anxiety.

Thank you all,

Cris

Hi Cris,  I truly sympathize with you where the anxiety is concerned. And having asthma can really create more anxiety.  Are you on an anti anxiety med?  I used to have terribe anxiety but have been pretty good for a while. I do take an anti anxiety med and my a/d med also helps to control anxiety.  The best thing you can do if you are feeling anxiety about asthma is try to stay calm.  The more upset you get the harder it will be to breathe. So try to relax, use your inhaler but give the inhaler time to work.  I find it best to sit very upright say with a lot of pillows behind me.  When I wheeze and use my inhaler I always wait 15 minutes, staying very calm and then the wheezing clears up.  Also, something my pulmonologist told me is don't take the 2 puffs right away.  He said to take the first puff, wait 5 min. and then take the 2nd puff.  Be sure to use your spacer.  This method has really helped me.  We have communicated before on asthma.  And I recently today sent you a post.  What inhaler did you finally get?  As far as the anxiety goes it helps to be in therapy and have medication.  Controlling your breathing also helps.  You can overcome this = I did but it takes work and time and help.  Please post and let me know how you are.  I will do what I can to help you and answer your questions.  Take good care of yourself.

Gentle hugs,

Aurora

Thank you guys for your concern and for giving me hope. I feel better now, ups and downs, but I know I have to fight and do not give up.

Aurora, thank you for always being there for me without knowing me you always have the right answer. Yes, I am on medication for my anxiety, but the asthma medication makes it worst. My Dr. prescribed Ventolin HFA, but I still have some albuterol CFC left. I spent some days at my sister's place and it made me feel good. I've been dealing with anxiety for over a year and sometimes I just can't take it anymore.

Thank you friends, and happy Valentine's Day!

God bless you all,

Cris

Hey Chris, I have ups and downs too. Always had since a kid. My mother gave me something to help, nothing much, but it cheers a person up. She just took a regular binder, threw a pack of paper in it and each page was lettered a-z... she wrote positive charasterics about me in it, then gave it to me. so if i'm down, i think of what i have going for me now!

Hi smurfi shadow, thank you for your reply. What a nice thing your mother did for you, that's a great idea. Yes sometimes when I feel down I just look around me and concentrate about the good things I have and what kind of human being I am. Reading all the complications you have in your health makes me admire you. Thank you from the buttom of my heart.

Aurora, are you still around. I's been a long time that I do not post. Right now I'm going through a bad anxiety after using advair for only one day. I take my anxiety medication and it takes forever to calm me down. Will I be ok? Today is Thursday and I took the advair on Sunday afternoon. My doctor told me that I would be fine after two days but I'm getting worst.

I will thank any comment. The anxiety was under control and I was happy about that, but for trying to control my asthma once again I'm feeling miserable.

Thank you!

cristecor I am a fellow anxious asthmatic. Panic attacks and having asthma really do suck. Especially when I overuse my ventolin and it causes heart palpitations that set me off.

I tried Advair also about 2 years ago, and it really gave me a pretty bad panic attack. I had just climbed about 75 stairs to get to a skytrain and figured my racing heart was due to me simply being out of shape but when the fear took over I knew that it may actually be the medication.

I got home and read the product insert from the Advair and found that people with anxiety should not take it without discussing first with their doctor. I told my doctor of my attack, but unfortunately he didn't seem to care all that much and harped on me for using my ventolin too much.

I ended up never using advair again, and just went back to my flovent 250mcg.

I hope you find a more compassionate approach from your MD than I did and also determine whether you should be on advair.

Just remember that your mind can most certainly play tricks on you, and despite the drug actually being beneficial to you, we allow ourselves to lose control and use it as a scapegoat rather than a benefit due to our anxious thoughts.

Good look to you.
