Hi there,

I've just started a restaurant dishwashing job...i've done four shifts so far and i utilize a new pair of rubber gloves each time. But after my 8-hour shift yesterday, after taking off the gloves i realized there were a lot of red bumps on my right hand and they are a little itchy. There are also a few of them on my left hand but not as many. I also get itchy eyes that water.

I just wanted to inquire what are the possible causes of this....the detergent? dry skin? certain foods? hot water? moisture inside the glove? the latex glove itself?

And any advice on treatment? How long does it take for them to go away?

And any advice on what to do during my next shift?

Thanks.

If you want to rule out if it's the latex, you can purchase your own latex free gloves to see if it helps. If it doesn't then it can be from what you stated. It's all a matter of elimination to find the culprit. If the red bumps continue you should see a doctor because it can be a skin infection (fungal) which would require medication. Fungal infections thrive on moist warm environments.
