My child is 5 and has been on the Sigulair chewable since October 2008. Recently he has been complaining of a stomach ache and has lost his appetite He has also become lethargic and has had some irritability and digestive problems. Is it possible to develop side effects to this medication after so many months? As a history, I have Ulcerative colitis and asthma.
Any advice or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

I'm not a doctor, and certainly you should consult yours, but I have never had a medication I've done well with, that later caused me problems. I'd suspect it's something else. I've taken Singular for a long time, and I've got a very sensitive stomach. I get gastritis very easily--I've never had a stomach problem that I could relate to Singular. When I get a gastritis flare up, though, I eliminate as many meds as possible until I clear it up.
Good luck with your son!

Good Morning JingleBell
All medicines may cause side effects, but many people using Singulair chewables have no, or minor, side effects. Check with your doctor if any of these most common side effects persist or become bothersome:
Cough; dizziness; headache; indigestion; nausea; stomach upset or pain; stuffy nose; tiredness; trouble sleeping; weakness.
I am glad you are going to call you child's physician. Please keep us posted on how things are going for your child.
Gentle Hugs,
Kitt
