---Been having this terrible....dry, non productive cough for over 3 weeks now!

Driving me crazy!  No mucous.....just a dry...'barking' cough!  Terrible...driving me 'up a wall'...! smhair

I'm on Tessalon....100 mg.....helps a little....!

Had chest X ray--Friday--it was normal.   :-) I'm seeing a very good Pulmonologist tomorrow..(Monday...9 Nov)---!

Been reading....on internet---I have NO 'wheezing'.....just this dry cough!

Read about "Cough variant" asthma--! eyes

Over the past 25 or 30 years...I get "spells'....like this that last for weeks or a couple months---THEN...it'll go away...for years!  about 3 weeks ago--due to vertigo---I had to take my Antivert...(meclizine...& it says...NOT to be taken...by people with COPD..or asthma ...is it possible THIS.."triggered"...it?)

I notice.......my nose is itching a lot!  Could this JUST be allergies...(As my wife says...!   She's always trying to make me worry less)---I think it's the ..'cough variant'...asthma-- confused

Tomorrow...I assume my Pulmonary Dr--will give me spirometry----Will that tell her if I have this type of asthma?

A few years ago---Dr. gave me..."Medrol"...pack..(steroids)--made the inflammation go away.....THEN...last year.......my E/N/T Dr.....gave me a "medrol"...pack for an ear inflammation..& guess what.......it "triggered"......my irregular heartbeats!   (And Dr. said to discontinue it)---- shakehead

ANYWAY...who has either.....1) "Cough variant asthma'...OR.....an "Allergic cough"...(WHAT the heck is in the air in the Autumn ....anyway?

But..PLEASE----you people here have given me...Sooo much support...comfort & kind words...you have no idea ...how much you help me!  wink        Thank God.......when I called Pulmomary Dr.--She was kind enough to get ON the phone...& schedule me...for tomorrow!   Any idea of WHAT she can give me...to stop this terrible cough?  It is driving me...crazy!   I will let you all know how I make out tomorrow...with my Pulmonary Dr--- blush    Thanks so much---regards--Robert

My son has this type of asthma and yes it drove him nuts too! He would hardly get any sleep, the poor guy :( But what the doc gave him was allergy meds - Allegra and Singulair (which is also an asthma med) and sometimes Albuterol or Asmanex inhalers. The Asmanex worked better for him but he had to be sure to rinse his mouth out after using it since it can cause mouth infections due to the steroids. He too would have random attacks but it mostly struck in the fall and spring. Also, his doc said that it was ok for him to use RobitussinDM to help him sleep at night.

My chronic cough is from GERD related asthma and allergies.
