Just got diagnosed last week by a doc saying i have silent asthma. Basically i couldnt take deep breaths and felt like i had problem getting enough air in my lungs. He diagnosed me by giving me a spirometer test and after inhalation of meds i did 50 percent better on the test. I was given a med called Turbuhaler whch contains budenoside and formoterol. That is the only med.

What do you think about the meds i was given ? I hear alot about the side effects of stereoids and am not to happy to use them, what other meds is generally recommended ? He didnt really give me any option on the meds.

Thankful for help

I take Advair and Albuterol sulfate.

The Advair is a preventive. The Albuterol sulfate is for emergencies.

I've never heard of Turbuhaler.

Most prescibed medicines for asthma, for asthma maintainence meds have steroids..However for asthma flairs are bronchildilators
maybe ask your doctor about emergency medicines you might need, bronchildilators...(SP?) I've not heard of turbuhaler, but it could be a newer medicine,
try doing a google search on this medicine to get more info on it...make sure to rinse your mouth after using an inhaler to prevent mouth infections, However you
can get a throat yeast infection from long term inhaled steroid use and I'm just getting over that, but usually inaled steroid have a lot fewer side effects than
a shot or pill............
Good luck to you and hope this info helps, also make up a list of questions to take to your doctor...

Hi, I haven't heard of the inhaler you were prescribed but those are the same ingredients in Symbicort which is the long term inhaler I use. I have been using this for over 2 yrs and have no side effects. And the best part is I can breathe. I also have an albuterol rescue inhaler which I don't have to use very often unless I get a bad attack and close up. Maybe you should talk to your dr. further about you med and ask why you were prescribed this one. Also ask if you should have a rescue inhaler. It's a good idea to have as much information as you can get before seeing your dr. and have a list of questions to ask. The steroids in inhalers are not the same steroids you may be thinking of. I also have prednisone for a serious attack that doesn't clear up with inhalers.

Hi. I am taking symbicort and i also have an emergancy inhaler.  i was told that for an asthma medicine to be effective it needs to contain steriods. I was wondering about somthing you wrote: that you have silent asthma. and that it is hard for you to take air in. I was not given a type of asthma, but i do not have any weezing, and i have much difficulty trying to get air in. i get very tired, light headed, panic attacks, my throat tightens up (making it even more difficult to breath) and i have recently started getting migrains. does any of this happen to you ?
