My poor girl! She's 15 years old and she has had allergies for a long time. She is allergic to almost EVERYTHING! Mold, mildew, ragweed, various weeds, trees, shell fish, pollen, cats, dogs, cockroaches and the list goes on. But last Saturday she broke out in a rash from head to toe. So now I am thinking she is allergic to the sulfa in Bactrim. She started on this for a UTI and a few days later, she broke out in the bad rash. She was so itchy! I am taking her in to the ENT in November to have her allergy tested for sulfa. She had to take a day of Benedryl and stop the antibiotic. Luckily her rash went away but it took two days. She is already doing allergy injections and was doing very well on them and now this!

I'm sorry to hear that, Sherry. I reacted to Bactrim prescribed for a UTI also: a rash was the last symptom, following a week of fevers, weakness, fast heart rate, low BP, dehydration, and joint pain. And the ER and my nurse practitioner both insisted it was the flu until the rash came up.

Sounds like an allergy to me.
I did that with amoxacillin, but throw in also facial edema.
It took a full month to get it out of my system because it was time release.
I'm just like you daughter- allergic to everything in my area but the beech tree. :(

I am not 100% positive that she is allergic to the Sulfa because she also ate two other things that she knows she is allergic to on the same day she broke out in the rash. But she has ate this stuff in the past but it never cause rashing - just nasal congestion, PND and coughing. So I thought it would be better just to have her tested to see if it is the sulfa so that way we can prevent this from happening in the future. I am also allergic to sulfa. I either break out in painful itchy welts or it causes severe gastrointestinal pain.

It sounds like you two (Percycat & Joy) have very serious reactions to antibiotics! Luckily the rash only lasted a few days with my daughter. Allergies are such a miserable thing to have!

I felt *really* sick the whole time with mine, and even after stopping the med, it was two weeks before I could walk across the street or stand for a while without feeling totally tired out. I don't ever want to feel that bad again.
