I cant figure out if my intolerance is from the oatmeal i ate this morning, or chicken....i've been trying to figure out what exactly my intolerance is... im pretty sure its more of an intolerance rather than allergic, simply because of my side affects. my side affects are the same everytime, i get real cold, my circulation drasticly decreases, fatigue, and less blood flow to my head(slight headache).

i know its either from chicken or gluten or (oatmeal specificly)...i can pinpoint this issue to these two things because of knowing my own body and dealing with this isssue for along time. I remember eating alot of chicken with salad at lunch 2 months ago for lunch and right after that feeling the same affect, Feeling very dizzy, cold, and very very uncomfortable. The reason why i think it might be oatmeal is because this morning i ate a big bowl of oatmeal and right after that i felt the same affect, But then again i ate chicken the night before.. i am going to eat another big bowl of oatmeal tommorrow morning to see if it comes back. But it just kinda sucks that i have to keep going through this trial and error situation to find out what my intolerance is....

whats the possibility that it could be both?

any input would be greatly appreciated.

Was your chicken battered? That could be the gluten.
But the gluten allergy will follow any bread product.

Could have been something on the oatmeal or the chicken.

Did you use brown sugar, or any sugar or sweetener?

On the chicken - any pepper, onion or garlic? Was anything at all added? Frozen chicken pieces usually have at least a bunch of salt water added.

How about anything else you ate or drank? Bread, salad dressing, onions or garlic in the salad, everything.

Start keeping a notebook - a food log with date and time, what you ate and how much. Include everything! All spices, bread, everything. 1 and 2 hours later - what was the reaction? Even if it was none. If you get headaches you may have to note what happens for 24 hours. It can take up to 2 days for some food triggers to cause a reaction in cases of migraine.

Oatmeal and chicken are unlikely culprits all by themselves.

Have you had this reaction for a while? If it's suddenly come on it's unlikely to be a sensitivity. Same if it doesn't happen all the time, because you probably eat chicken more than once in a couple of months. You could have any number of other conditions - heart, infection ...

If the problem seems more than just annoying you should see a doctor.

i hate oatmeal this morning, Seemed fine...Im think its the chicken..The chicken was by itself with nothing else added to it. it was trader joes chicken with no msg's or whatever and no added crapp.

But sense i felt fine eating oatmeal , and the fact that i remember being at work and eating nothing but chicken and salad, and feeling the same negative affects, im gonan have to say its the chicken...

weather its the chicken itself or some kinda protein, i still have to do some trial and error for that....

as far the problem and how long its been affecting me. I honestly think its been affecting me for along long time....for the last 4 years i occoassionally feel cold, and have decreased circulation, but yet i was always staying active and would feel great for 2 days straight, then bamm, i feel horrible and cold, and my love handles get super cold also. So i must say this probably has been going on for a while, but i never was educated on intolerances.

Thank god for internet and forums..i would probably be suffering more if it wasnt for the net and forums....THanks guys

maybe its chicken itself or protein in the chicken?

Please do keep a journal of the foods you eat and your reactions. It takes a couple of months to get the foods sorted out, but the information can help an allergist.

Maybe try checking your blood pressure and heart rate and put that in the journal too. You can get a nice little portable monitor in most drug stores and a lot of department stores or online. They're affordable too. Your reported symptoms don't seem like migraine or GERD, the usual reactions to food intolerances, but the heart cn react too.

If I eat one of my food triggers My stomach tries to reflux and I get tachycardia and other arrhythmias. It's called cardio-esophageal reflex or linked angina. I'm fine unless I eat too much of a trigger. My triggers are sulfite-containing foods and sunflower seeds. It's a long list of foods, but it only triggers if I overdo the indulgences. I can have up to a single can of soda, for instance. More corn syrup and carmel coloring, or other triggers, in a day and I'm asking for a trip to the ER to get my heart reset.

Don't dream that I am a doctor! I'm just a grandma who is computer able, formerly worked in pharmaceutical research for a little while.

I would look at the bread before the oatmeal. But oat allergy is possible.

You could have a wheat allergy, or gluten intolerance, or an intolerance to the preservatives (often sulfite or sulfited) in the bread. You could also have an insulin problem or blood sugar problem from the carbs in the bread and/or the oatmeal.

Did you put anything on the bread or the oatmeal?

You'll have to keep on keeping a food log. Don't eat the bread and see if you get the same reaction one day. Eat the bread and don't eat the oatmeal the next day. Change what you put on the oatmeal another day or don't put anything at all on it.

It's not easy to find your food intolerance(s). This will take a couple of months at least.

Do you react at any other times of day? To any other specific foods? What about if you eat oatmeal for supper?

hi, i recently visited a Naturopathic doctor and asked for an allergy blood test. the results amazed me - among other things, allergy to oats. i never knew people are allergic to oats. so why don'y you check his out. the problem is, i think, they add everything to anything, and you never know what you eat...good luck
