hi all,

Something strange has started happenning to me and I don´t know if it will pass or I need to take further action.

I live iin Mexico City (which is a very high-altitude city) where it is winter and just came back from holiday in a country where it is summer and at sea-level.

I have been in Mex City for over 2 years without any breathing difficulty before.

Before my holiday I had a flu or allergy (I am not sure what it was) that lasted 2-3 weeks then it disappeared in less than 2 days when I arrived on holiday.

When I arrived back in Mex City, the first night was ok but now, since 5 days ago, I have started wheezing in the evenings but I am perfectly fine during the day. So much so that I can go for a run during the day and have done several times.

In the evening I have trouble breathing and all sorts of noises come out of my throat when I breath (I think they call it wheezing like when you have asthma).

The other thing I should mention is that I have done little vigorous exercise for the past 6 months due to a knee injury but I have still walked a lot and was able to climb some hills of medium height without problem on holiday.

Does this sound like an allergy thing? Should I just wait some more days?

My worry is that if I go to the doctor during the day they won´t see/find anything as I am fine in those hours.

Thanks in advance.

It sounds like it can possibly be allergy induced asthma, but I'm not a doctor. If it continues, you should definitely go see your doctor.

Just as a side note, I am in a low altitude state and when I went to a high altitude state last summer my body went nuts. In the high altitude, my nose became super stuffy and I had bloody noses (it also caused a few of my other health conditions to go crazy). When I got back home, it took nearly 2 weeks for my body to get back to normal.

have been to the wonderful city of Mexico City but it is in a bowl sort of like our fabulous New Orleans. unfortunately, these areas are prone to pollution.

if you do continue to wheeze...see a doctor...sounds like asthma to me. make sure to have air in your bedroom. air is the best for breathing.

mucho gusto

Hello again,

Thank you for your replies.

Yesterday afternoon I went for a run again and I had to stop as it was very difficult to breathe.

I will be booking an appointment with a Respiratory Specialist asap.

Thanks again

Regards

hi all,

Just as an update, I went to the specialist and he told me that I had had a bad reaction to my allergy (I understand that I have an allergy to sudden changes in temperature).

The reaction was causing all of my symptoms.

Also here in mexico it is the season of allergies so he prescribed:

*an injection of something to help me sleep better the first night (to open the airways)

*some pills to take for up to 1 week to get rid of the cough I had developed

*an inhaler to use for the next 2 months while the allergy season lasts

*some pills to take for the next 2 months while the allergy season lasts

I am feeling better already and can now sleep without problems.

Thank you for the help and keep up the website.

Cheers
