I was looking for what my allergist told me about to help clear my chronic sinus infection, along with antibiotics and Diflucan. (What got prescribed, or maybe the pharmacist made the mistake, was an antihistamine, so I'm waiting for a call to find out what it should have been.)
I found in several sites a recipe calling for 500ml (about 2 1/4cup) water, 1 tsp salt and 1 tsp baby shampoo. I make a half recipe so it's fresh, since there's no preservatives and I don't want to refrigerate.
Then I just use a "Netti" pot, or a small teapot, or just a small squeeze bottle to pour the stuff in one nostril at a time while leaning over the kitchen or bathroom sink. I avoid swallowing the stuff.
I feel like the combination of the Diflucan pills plus the wash are helping more than the other antibiotics did, even with staight saline wash. I've had about 6 sinus infections in the last 8 months, so I probably haven't gotten the original one cured.
The studies I read said the shampoo sinus wash didn't "cure" the biofilm but would prevent it. The antibiotics provide the cure, but they can't work if there is too much gunk in there, and the infection recurs.
If this doesn't work I will be getting an Rx for the wash with antibiotic included in it. I'm on all this stuff for 21 days.
