I did but I had to go back on a different one after a year. I'm on patenase now. I'd like to get off that one. :S

Yes, I have and so had my daughter. My daughter recently was on Omnaris and it really helped her but she hates nasal sprays. It makes it hard to get a teen to do anything let alone things they don't like. So she maintains her allergies with allergy shots and Zyrtec. I was on Nasonex for about 6 months and then I got a severe cold that turned into severe bronchitis - personally I think it was due to the Nasonex. So I stopped it and I haven't been on a nasal spray for about 3-4 years or so.

Hi Joy and Sherry,

How did you wean off of them? Did you use anything else to help ease the withrawal stage or did you go cold turkey?

I just quit cold turkey but I imagine that if you are on them for longer then I was, that you might want to try with using it once a day (if you are on the two a day dosing), do this for a week or two and then do it every other day for a week or two, every two days, etc - this is a slow wean process.

The nasonex I stopped cold turkey because I developed nose bleeds and horrible sores. It was hard to go through the first days.
With the patenase, I was on two sprays twice a day. I'm down to one spray twice a day. My next step is one at bedtime, that's when I'm worse because of my CPAP machine dries me out. I feel stuffy then.

Hi guys...thanks so much for the info.

So far I have gone from 2 sprays in each nostril once a day to 1 spray in each nostril and I've added a saline spray to help me wean off...so far so good!!

I think the real challenge will be when I wean off the one spray in each nostril...but I'm hopeful...my goal is to use only saline spray for my sinsuses (something I should have done right from the start).

Thanks again!

I need Flonase (available as generic) once or twice a day because my nasal passages are too small. If I skip a few days I don't notice any withdrawal at all. Maybe you could switch to that one while you wean off the other.

I have had a sinus infection for a year and a half, or maybe just get them once a month or so, but it seems like it really never was really cured. I've been on Bactrim for 3 weeks, now stopped, taking Diflucan which is helping the most.

I also rinse daily (use a very small teapot) with my own mix of 250 ml (1 cup) water, 1/2 tsp salt, 1/2 tsp baby shampoo. I have a nasal spray made with 45 ml (3 Tbsp) saline, 5 grams bactroban nasal ointment. I put it all in a glass cup, heated 30 sec in microwave. This left the parafin mostly on the walls of the cup. I put it back into the spray bottle and try to spray once into each nostril with my head down to get it to the sinuses.

I suspect I have a chronic "biofilm" or plaque left in the sinuses which even the surfactant baby shampoo won't completely remove.

Hi Alcie,

My ENT checked my nose canal with this amzing narrow tool with a light at the end and he said it was clean and pink but he suspects I have small nasal passages too...he's sending me for a CT scan to check it out.

Thanks for the suggestion but I'm afraid I'll only get hooked on the Flonase too.

I'm down to 1 spray in each nostril once a day but yesterday I missed a dose altogether but I was needed it today but not as bad as I thought it would be....I think the saline spray really helps the wean by keeping my sinuses moist.

So I'll skip a dose every second day for awhile and see how it goes.

I'm off my patenase! :) (happy dance)
I stopped taking my morning dose, then stopped the night dose, so far so good.
The first couple of days I had some drainage down the back of my throat, but it has mostly stopped. (fingers crossed)
