I've always taken allergy meds, but now seem to need asthma meds as well. I take claritin daily. Find myself wondering if my allergies were better controlled would I even need the asthma meds, or are these really two separate issues? What kind of allergy meds do you guys take that seem to work well?

I take advair for maintance medicine for my asthma and ventolin for emergencies.
For my other allergies I take zyrtec and patanase nasal spray.
They are two separate issues for the most part.

Yes, they are two different issues however, allergies can aggravate asthma. If you have allergies with asthma then it might be wise to stay on your allergy meds.

I don't have asthma but right now I use Singulair and Zyrtec for my allergies.

Yes I am on Singulair (for asthma my pulmonologist has me on them at night for asthma apparently time of day taken for it determines which use you are using it for). I also take benadryl. I use to take zyrtec until it went OTC

Zyrtec is the same OTC as the perscription was. I take it twice a day with my doctor's blessings.

I take allegra and singular. My asthma is not so bad. I have had this mess for more years than I care to remember. Mostly I am allergic to drugs, especially antibiotics and opiates for pain.

Advair and Zyrtec here. I start out with runny nose and eyes, if I don't start the Advair right away I'm coughing and having trouble breathing in about three days.
