Hi all again,

Wow..Some of the COPD posts are a bit old, aren't they?
I seem to be alone in my postings on the subject.
Never mind; I just wanted to explain my lack of communication.

I've been in and out of hospital since February.
Several exacerbations later and I'm back home again.
I thought I had the whole thing under control until I got some bug or other and the meds didn't cut it any more.
Ended up; mad dash to hospital and a week in Hugh Dependency. Pipes and tubes in almost every orifice, on oxygen for a few days. Not at all pleasant.
Staff were great; angels all.
Returned home with a large sack of meds and bits of kit and all seems to be back under control.
So, any sufferers out there; do get yourself straight to A&E if things get out of hand; Sudden change in S.O.B and exacerbations mean you're not going to 'sleep it off' as you would with most things, as I found out,
Men eh?
Oh, and the wheelchair grand entrance lacks street cred, don't you think?
Keep on, keeping on, folks.

wink

I'm glad your doing better, it's good of you to posts...maybe others will come by
and read. So Sorry about your hospital stay, wish this gets better for you and that
you don't have to be in the hospital any time soon.
Are you on home nebulizer treatments???
Hope you feeling a whole lot better soon and take it easy....

Hi Chartreux,
Thanks for the welcome back.
I had a bit of a wobbly day yesterday but the meds are starting to kick in. I'm on Spiriva and Ventolin via a gadget and it helps.
I wonder.. Are you a COPD sufferer?

Anyway; I was invited to a 'Breathe Easy' support group in town today so I toddled along..
Very nice bunch of people, we did some breathing exercises and generally compared complaints over a pot of tea. There are some very sick people out there and I consider myself fortunate, as it happens.
It's said that there's always someone worse off; and it's true!
I think it's important to attend some sort of group as one can feel very socially isolated sometimes, especially when living alone as I do.
This forum has helped me to understand more about other folks problems and how they cope.
So yes, taking a few days out to recover and do very little for a while.

And healing hugs to you and all on here too…
Anthony.

I'm glad you found a support group, over the years for me different doctors have told me
different things, asthma by one doctor, copd by another doctor, ect...nothing to definitive...
What complicates things is I have Sjogren's and I get so dried out by that, that starts
the coughing and when it gets bad it can go into pneumonia easy for me...Last year, was my
4th time with pneumonia...Pneumonia is no fun....I broke 3 ribs with it last year...
If I can get a good balance of water in me I'm fine....make sure you get plenty of liquids down too it'll
help...Koolaid helps as it also has vitamin C in it....I also have acid reflux and that'll complicate things
as well, but enough about me...Make sure to get plenty of rest, okay....

Take Care, okay...

Hi Chartreux,
You do seem to have an interesting range of ailments! Some diagnosed; some not.
Oh yes; I empathise with the broken ribs. I busted two through coughing back in the summer. Not a lot of fun, is it? Hospital just shrugged and sent me away with painkillers.
Now I cough VERY carefully lol..
Yep, drinking lots of liquids. Never really liked water. Preferring it boiled and poured over tea-leaves myself. I have started drinking more water of late as it does help with bringing up… You know…. But let's not go there!
Today I had a visit from a pulmonary nurse who gave me the usual tests.
The good news is that she's arranged for me to go to respiratory rehab. Sounds impressive huh?
The bad news is that I can't get onto it until the autumn.
I think our national health service in UK is rather hoping its patients pop their clogs if they keep us waiting long enough! Saves so much paperwork lol..
You look after yourself.

Gentle hugs (Watch those ribs)
Anthony

Hi Chartreux, K?
That's very kind of you to point that out.
I'll certainly go and see what's happening there.
Not been very active on here of late.
Been in and out of various medical establishments but feeling pretty good at the moment.

No idea why this is showing rainbow colours....lol

Been to our local 'Wheeze-easy' group today and did some breathing physical jerks which do help.
Anyway, summer is a-coming in here and I can get out and about to do some gentle walks by the ocean.
Hope things are ok with you and yours.

I'll be back....
Take care, big hugs

Hi Anthony,

I have a few other ailments so I hang out in other forums. I wish there was a COPD forum as I keep asking my doctor questions and he says to me well you quit smoking that must be helping you. I know there are places he could refer me to and tests to see hoe advanced this is.
Take care
Rose

Hi Rose,

Yes, it’s such a shame there’s no forum for COPD….
I’ve finally given up asking for/suggesting one, and I know some of my friends and our local support group have drifted away from this site because of this.
I can only presume that COPD doesn’t have the ’kudos’ of other afflictions, which is very strange, given the figures of sufferers worldwide.
Mine is partially due to asbestos and perhaps there’s reluctance to acknowledge the condition due to litigation possibilities. Political hot potato?
Whatever…

I do still drop in here from time to time, but have been spending more time elsewhere in Tinterweb...

You do seem to have an impressive set of ailments Rose..
I’m on Spiriva, saline via nebuliser, anti-cholesterol.. blah ..Blah…
And like you; my doctor didn’t really care at all. In fact, I left the practice, giving my reasons and now have an excellent, sympathetic GP in the same village.
He was surprised to discover that almost all my meds were wrongly prescribed, so pretty smart move on my part.
I must endeavour to contract a more exciting affliction…lol.

Anyway Rose, You take care, look after yourself and take each day as it comes.
Big hugs,
Anthony.
