My husband had what we thought was a severe allergice reaction to taking naproxyn in July.  His nose started burning, his throat was tight and he could not swallow water-he could breathe ok-he was sweating badly and very weak.  He stopped taking naproxyn right away.  about two weeks later, same thing happened while driving to work, he went to the er, they checked his heart-no heart attack-said it was allergies and put him on zyrtec.  the episodes started happening daily, starts with nose or throat burning, can happen when he blows his nose, happens when he is at work and gets into dust or musty areas.  Also right side of face and lips now get numb when he has them.  he has had a ct scan  and xrays of sinuses, throat xrays, found nothing irregular. He does have a diviated septum (sp), which the ent did not think was related to this.  We have charted all attacks for 3 weeks, went back to the ent, he said he had no idea, there was nothing about the attacks that pointed to a food allergy, said he couldn't help us and had no idea who to refer us to.  we are waiting for allergy testing to be done next week by a different ent.  As I was looking at symptoms online I found this website and thought I would give it a try to see if anyone had any ideas.  thank you.

It does sound like he is having an allergic reaction to something. It doesn't necessarily have to be from food. When he is in the dusty and musty areas, who knows what kind of germs, fungi, or allergens could be floating around?! It's good that he is getting allergy testing. Perhaps than both of you will find the answers you seek. Good luck to him! Btw, does the Zyrtec help him or at least ease some of his symptoms?

Thanks Sherry! the Zyrtec does help some, but when he has really bad attacks, nothing seems to help. He was put on Flonase and Predesone (sp) and those put him in bed for over a week, his nose burned constantly and it wasn't good. so stopped taking those! Hoping we get some answers from allergy testing! thanks again

Vistril is another allergy medicine that works wonders. Ask about it from your doctor.

I would see an allergist for one thing. They have different expertise from ent.

Second, you said you were "charting all attacks." Were you keeping a journal/log of all foods, drinks, medicines and the time consumed in addition to the symptoms? It's helpful to write down everything that might remotely be a trigger.

Have you changed anything else recently - detergents, shampoo or body wash or soap, perfumes, deodorants, new car, new clothes ...?

Good luck with the allergy detection.
