hi everyone.i posted a little while ago but i have come back to find out if anybody has an idea of what else i can do to stop my horrible face pain from sinus.i am on a 15 month waiting list to see an allergist but i am suffering so badly.the pain is under each eye and in the eyebrows and slightly lower as well.it also feels like a cold pain.it never seems to stop and it makes my chronic headaches worse.i don't sneeze but i get the occassional ear ache and throat soreness.my nose does not run either.i use script nose sprays everything day and i flush my nose with saline water.i take sudafed everyday but nothing is helping me.i need to come up with some more ideas while i am waiting to see the specialist.all the doctors i have asked don't have a clue.it is all so frustrating.i am so sick of the pain.am i the only one that calls them sinus plates?help needed please.thank you. cry

Hi autunm,
Like you, I get chronic sinus infections. I've been fighting them for 3 years, but they keep coming back. Same location, most pain in the frontal sinuses, some in the maxillaries. Occasional earaches don't go away without antibiotics. Every head CT and MRI has confirmed infection. Antibiotics are getting less useful. Augmentin not working now.

I take Mucinex 12-hour to thin the secretions instead of drying them up. This helps the cilia clear the mucus. I also rinse the sinuses twice a day, but it's no cure. My ENT has me on budesonide in the sinus wash and a steroid spray, fluticasone furoate. We'll see about that. They're not antibiotics. His nurse won't deliver my messages of needing antibiotics anymore or give me appointments oftener than once in a few months, so I have resorted to asking my PCP to prescribe them when it's bad. The current infection went to my chest again. It hurts to wear reading or sunglases.

I've had the sinus surgery, but that only makes the nose drip instead of running down my throat.

What script nose spray are you using? I had no luck with fluticasone propionate and Astepro.

hi alcie.you sound like you have been through a terrible time with your sinus.i am so sorry that you have had to endure all of that and still not get much relief.i am taking a script nose spray called avamys.i am not sure which country you live in but i have found that when i am talking on a forum, the medication names are different in each country.i had the sinus surgery in my nose about 25 years ago and i had no sinus problems for 10 years and then it all came back but differently.i used to sneeze and my eyes were always tearing up and i had sore throats and ears.basically,i felt like i had a non stop headcold and it was impacting on my job and social life at the time because i was about 18 years old.now i just get the intense pain in my face.

what you are going through sounds a whole lot worse.have you seen an allergest yet?allergies cause sinus.my doctor yesterday said i should go back and see an ear, nose and throat specialist but i can't afford it now.i have no idea how i am going to afford to see the allergest either but i figured that would be the place to start.get tested and maybe think about immunotherepy.my twin sister had immunotherepy and she did 3 years of injections and got about 2 years of slight relief.maybe you could look at this option as well.it sounds like you have tried a lot of other things.hang in there.i think we are not alone in all of this.take care.

Autunm,
Avamyst - Oh, another name for fluticasone. Does it work for you? I've tried one preparation that did nothing. It's supposed to treat allergies, but my allergies are under control and I'm concerned about taking it for infection because glucocorticoids cause immunosuppression.

I see an allergist twice a year. I get allergy shots weekly. They're so much more effective than pills. I have no allergy symptoms now that I know of. Summer and winter, no sneezing, no tears, except for a few days last spring, and then the allergist added grass pollen to the shots and that was the end of that. The headache is in the same location, the drippy nose never gets better or worse. Fluid pours out when I bend over. That's the maxillary sinuses draining. They drain upward.

I feel like I have an infection except when I've been on an antibiotic that works for a few days. When I have an infection I have nasty green gunk, sometimes chest congestion or a slight fever, sometimes red cheeks. I suspect there's a plaque that just isn't getting treated.

I was in a wreck that broke my nose and displaced the septum. The septum was not fixed when the sinuses were opened. The wreck was 4 years ago, and that's when the chronic infections and sinus pain began. I had a cut on my forehead right where the right frontal sinus is. No broken bones were identified. Nerve damage doesn't explain green gunk.

Have you tried 12 hour Mucinex? It's guaifenesin in a time-release coating. Plain generic guaifenesin doesn't last long enough.

hi alcie.you have been through so much, you poor thing.sorry to hear you were in a wreck which started your problems.my sinus spray does nothing but over the counter chemist sprays do nothing either.that medication you mentioned at the bottom of your post,i have never heard of it.i am surprised to hear that you have allergy shots once a week.is that immunotherepy?

when i was 18 years old which was about roughly 25 years ago,i feel old,i had a sinus operation done on my nose by an ear, nose and throat specialist.i am not sure what they did but part of the procedure was breaking my nose at the top.it was awful after the operation.my nose was bleeding so much for days afterwards.anyway,i had 10 years of heaven.no pain,no allergy or sinus symptons.it was worth it but i can't afford to do it again or else i would.i just have to wait 15 months to see the allergist.they are a rare breed according to my doctor.

what you go through sounds so much worse.wish i could help you.today i feel like my face is going to blow off.it is a cold type pain.my face feels swollen but it does not look it and my ears are a little bit sore.i feel like i am allergic to everything in australia.my dad suffer allergies and he just went to tahiti on a cruise with my mother and then to hawaii and he never got any symptons at all until he stepped off the plain back in australia.it does make one wonder.anyway, have to go now so take care and chat to me anytime. turn yeah smurf idea rolleyes eyes

Try acupuncture! I have only used it for anxiety but my mom has used it for chronic sinus problems. I would go all the time if it was covered by insurance! It really can have an immediate impact on how you feel, plus they have an extremely extensive holistic information base that reaches beyond rxs
