I seem to be "allergic" do the most inconvenient things! I have A LOT of medication allergies, and unfortunately, the ones I can't take I need often. For example, Versed, not an option, but I have chronic recurrent dislocations, and most smaller hospitals won't use much else for sedation and end up sending you to a bigger hospital and that is just a TON of no fun. I have had to have a lot of procedures done awake, and in pain because of some of my medication issues, and it just doesn't seem fair. (
A lot of the meds used for my other dx's i can't use either b/c of allergy or adverse reactions, and all I hear is "that is Atypical" and get no help.
I swear if its not black and white, doctors can't see the color grey.
Also, I seem to go through "flares" of reactions if that is possible. One month I may react to EVERYTHING, and then for a while I don't have as many problems, and then another flare and the cycle repeats.
I really wonder if hormones can contribute to "allergies".
I seem to have to be very carefull with Toothpaste. some, espeically the sensitive stuff, will give me mouth sores and turn my mouth a whitish color. I can't use most soaps or shaving creams either. Who knew hygene could cause so much disstress!
I'm sorry this post is so random and may make no sense, I just need to share. Pitty party is officially over :)
I really feel for you guys why suffer SOOO much more than I do, you're doing Great!

Hi Ang, sorry you are having so much trouble.

Do you have a good list of your reactions to meds? Can you put things in categories, like pain meds, antibiotics, etc?

There are plenty of meds they can use for dislocations. I refuse Versed for all my surgeries. It's not a pain killer, just makes you forget. I get good muscle relaxation from Valium, which maybe could be used for your dislocations. I get intractable nausea from Fentanyl, and it doesn't relieve pain for me, so I refuse that too. I'm happy with Propofol, although I make them check the label for sulfite. It's not a pain reliever either. I have no trouble with the small hospitals. I just give them my list of reactions and they deal with it. Lots of procedures and surgeries. I do have one I refuse to go to again. I feel less like just another sheep in a smaller hospital.

For your soaps and skin reactions, you could google housemouse and sulfites. I'm not saying you have what she has, but she figured out her problem and her story might help you figure out yours.

Best wishes!
