Hello, Everyone:

I got caught out in the rain and I now feel terrible. Been sneezing, runny nose, and coughing. What is this? I feel like I am coming down with something.

Sounds possibly viral...

Vitamin C, L-Lysine, Elderberry, Zinc Lozengers may help...

Alka-Seltzer is also a good thing to try...

diamondannie, I'm sorry you're not feeling well.  I don't believe being caught in the rain, per se, makes a person sick, but the weather conditions during a rainstorm may make you feel sick.  Check out this website about weather related illness.  http://www.ehow.com/about_5390019_sudden-change-weather-cause-sickness.html

One thing you need to watch for is the color of your mucus.  If you're blowing your nose and the mucus is yellow or green, it may be a bacterial infection.  It's possible to ride this out if it's not very severe; otherwise, you'd see a doctor and you might be prescribed antibiotics.  If your mucus is clear, it's probably viral as Razzle says and you'd treat the symptoms to make you feel comfortable.  Or, it's just your body's reaction to allergens or changes in the barometer, etc. which is not a serious illness.  You'd just want to treat the symptoms for your own comfort.

I have been resting most of the day. I went to Walgreens. The color of the mucus is clear. The pharmacist said that I probably have a cold or something. I am tired of blowing my nose and sneezing. I was around my sister who had a cold last week.

Ok, if the mucus is clear, it might just be allergies or a common cold - of course, that doesn't mean you're not feeling miserable, so you should look for some medication to treat your symptoms.  If your nose is runny, you need an antihistamine.  Some make you drowsy and some don't.  Usually sneezing is because your nose is running.  Anyway, read the labels.  If your nose is stuffed up, you need a decongestant but here you need to be careful because if you have any problems with blood pressure or glaucoma, you should not take any unless your doctor tells you to.  Instead of a decongestant, a lot of people buy Mucinex which has guaifenisen (spelling??) which breaks up mucus and isn't supposed to drive blood pressure up.  There are several kinds of Mucinex so you need to read the labels.

I do. I have high blood pressure. I am miserable. I felt even worse when I sneezed my drink all over the table at Taco bell. I took some antihistamines and I feel so sleepy now. I have also noticed that my throat feels like it is on fire. My head hurts as well.

Coricidin makes a product for people with high blood pressure to treat colds.  It's called Coricidin HBP.   Your throat may hurt because of post nasal drip from your runny nose.  If you continue to be this sick maybe you should see a doctor.  There are minor med clinics around.  Can you use one of them?

(Edited because I wrote blood sugar instead of blood pressure.)

Sure. I feel horrible this morning. Been Sneezing, Nose has been soo runny, and I have a strange feeling of Nausea as well. I feel really tired as well. I hope my supervisor does not call me in to work. I feel horrible. This runny nose is the worst. Most of the clinics are closed for the holiday.

I know this may not be related to my cold or whatever. I sneeze soo loud. Why is that?

Loud sneezing????  Have no idea.  You have a lot of mucus running.  I don't know.  Although this is Sunday, we have minor med clinics open around our area, so you might see if there are any open near you, too.  The holiday is officially tomorrow.  Again, if you cannot see a health provider, you have to treat the symptoms.  Ask a pharmacist for suggestions for cold meds that don't cause drowsiness and that are compatible with high blood pressure.  Sorry you're sick.

I feel slightly better. I'm still sneezing with a runny nose, but no more coughing or sore throat.
