Good evening to all of you!!! I am new to this forum, but definitely glad to be here. I need some help with a problem. For the past 10 weeks I have had severe itching, beginning around 9 o'clock at night, and it lasts all night. Every part of my body itches, from my scalp right down to the ends of my toes. I have been taking Reactine during the day, and Benadryl at night (doctor's recommendation) but they don't help at all. I literally don't sleep more than 2 hours per night. My doctor just tested me for liver disease, but the test came back normally. I do have other medical conditions, such as Hashimoto's Thyroid Disease and Ankylosing Spondylitis. I am wondering if either of these conditions could possibly be contributing to my itching, or if my allergies could just be out of control. I have had severe environmental and food allergies since birth (over 40 years now). Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated tremendously!!!! eyes

I think that thyroid issues can cause itching. I am not 100% sure so feel free to ask on our Thyroid forum. But I know that AS does not.

Do you take any daily allergy medicines besides the Reactine? Or what other allergy meds have you tried?

Thank you for your reply!!! I have tried Claritin as well as one that I can't remember the name of, but I remember you are not supposed to drink orange juice with it (it was only available in the U.S. at that time). My doctor has not been able to get my thyroid under control for the past 18 months, and it has been in hyper mode for the full 18 months. I used to be on allergy shots but had an anaphalactic reaction to them (after 3 years) so I've been off shots now for about 5 years. At the moment I wish I had an allergist, but I've seen 3 of them through retirement already.

My doctor wrote me a prescription for Prednisone but I haven't filled it yet as I'm really afraid of the side effects.

Try the predisone. If the itching goes away then you know it's a type of autoimmune reaction.
Ask your doctor to run an Autoimmune panel on you. A simple ANA with titers will help.
