hi guys.i have been on this forum in the past but i have been sick for a long while so sorry i have not got back on here to chat to the wonderful and supportive people on this site.i am not coping with my chronic facial sinus pain which is coming from my allergies.
i am on a 15 month long waiting list to see the only private allergist in our area.i can't afford to go and i really have not got the health to go through immuno therepy, let alone afford it.i put my name down on the waiting list because i am desperate.
the pain is just too much and it never stops.from the eyebrows down,my face radiates pain, especially in the sinus plates on each side of my nose under my eyes.
i take sudafed each day and i do saline flushes and i am on the strongest nose script spray available but it is not helping me at all.
i am dealing with on and off sinus infections and all of this is really blowing my chronic headaches and migraines.i have just taken 4 days of steroid tablets and the pain eased up a lot but comes back late each afternoon but i can't stay on steroids.
i am sitting here and my ears are sore,my eyes are sore,my face is on fire as usual.i don't get runny noses and i don't sneeze anymore.
pain killers don't work on me anymore because i have taken codeine everyday for the last 25 years and nothing works anymore.i am suffering mulitiple chronic pain conditions and i am falling apart under the non stop pain issues.i am booked in to see a pain clinic this month but i feel i am in too much pain to go.
now my 3 teenage kids have come down with allergies.should i start washing the bedding in hot water?i am using a special duster to dust the house each week.
sorry this is so long.i also get terrible aches and pains in my neck and upper back.it is like having a flu virus all the time without the running nose.my jaw feels like it is aching badly too.i just cry and cry because this is causing me too much pain.
any suggestions while i am waiting on the long waiting list for the allergist?i am desperate.please help.thanks. mad devil eyes

I had chronic sinus infections for 3 years until I was finally given an antibiotic that stopped it. Augmentin and Biaxin didn't touch it. Oh, it would go away for a couple of weeks, but it always came back.

I had sinus surgery which didn't stop the infections. Finally I was given doxycycline for 3 weeks. I still have some headache problems, but I don't have the draining and green mucus.

Has your doctor done a culture to see if there's something growing there that can be cured? I wouldn't just believe it's an allergy. Every time I was sent by my ENT doc and the other doc had me get an MRI or CT it was shown that I had completely blocked sinuses due to infection.

Hi to Autumn..First of all, I empathize with you with chronic allergies! I too, once HAD them..like for YEARS on end..from early adulthood to a year ago. I am now age 62..and have NO allergies. What did I do? Well, a lot of healthy things..first and foremost, I went to a holistic alternative medicine doctor who does the NAET allergy treatments using accupressure . No shots, pills, or anything else. Look it up on internet google. Nambudripad Allergy Elimination Technic. Works like a charm! Sounds hokus pokus..but I'm here to say it works!

Over the years of my life, I've gone to countless allergy drs. given shots, pills, this treatment, that treatment, promises out the wazoo only to still be left with allergies. Come to discover, all they..the conventional drs. were doing was control my allergy symptoms. With NAET, you get to the root cause of the allergy by retraining the immune system using accupressure while holding a small vial containing the offensive allergen.

Additionally, I took my own self off of all dairy products, all sugars...and feel a million times better! Most people crave sweets due to having a parasite problem. skull sounds gross, I know..but oh so true..so once you get rid of the parasites, you no longer crave sugar. tongue
I'm here to help if you have any questions. God bless! Katsmeow :-)

hi alcie.no i have not had a coulture done.it sounds painful.my twin sister has the same problem as me and today she found out via an xray that her right side of her sinuses on her face is completely blocked plus she has an infection.
this is my story and i am sure many others.i will talk to my doctor in a few weeks and go from there.i have noticed since taking the steroids for 4 days that my chronic pain is not too bad sometimes but i understand i can't keep taking this drug.it is only covering up the pain.
my sister also has been told she has chronic sinusitis.i have this feeling that the same diagnoses will be given to me.thanks for your help.take care. turn

hi gods catsmeow.what an unusual name.i am happy that you found the natural approach very helpful for your sinus and allergy problems.i have tried accupuncture several times in the past for problems but it did not work.
that does not mean it will not help my problem at the moment.i have to be honest and say i can't afford to see another natrapath but i will not dismiss it.take care. turn

Are you physically close to your sister? I figured out I was sharing infections with 4-year-old grandson who constantly had fingers in nose. He got treated with something other than Amoxicillin (finally) and I got 3 weeks of doxycycline, and we got relief at the same time.

Cultures don't hurt. There's no pricking or anything. Just a tiny loop into nose to get as pure a drop of drainage as possible. No pain at all!

Was your sister prescribed an antibiotic? A culture would better determine what the treatment needs to be. Your family doctor could give you a prescription for an X-Ray (cheap) or MRI of sinuses also. You don't have to wait for an allergist.

Steroids only reduce swelling and you might want to look up side effects before you take them too long. Yes, that means they get rid of pain, but only until you stop taking them. They aren't antibiotics. I'm taking a low dose steroid in my sinus wash temporarily, but it doesn't seem to do much. I got as much relief from over-the-counter Mucinex 12-Hour. I used that when the weather was exceptionally dry and it helped drainage, which reduced headache and sinus pressure.

hi alcie.no,i am not in close contact with my sister all the time.i do see her on and off but her family is always too sick to go near.they have a 2 year old boy at childcare and he is always sick which they in term get.
i understand what you mean by not taking too much steroids.even i was not too keen to take it in the first place last week.to me,it is just another medication to stop the pain but not fix it and get addicted to it.it is bad enough being addicted to codeine my whole adult life.
i will write down the coulture thing and mention it to the doctor.i have had an xray 2 weeks ago and i am waiting to get the results off my doctor but he has been away on holidays so i have to wait.hope your feeling ok today.thanks for your wonderful advice and support.it really means a lot to me.just curious,i am not sure which country this forum is in.i have this feeling it is an english forum but i could be wrong.i know it is not australian, that is my country.take care. turn

Ah, the sick child connection. Runny nose? Kids get Moraxella cattarhallis from each other and it's not easily cured with the wimpy meds they are usually given (amoxicillin). They give the bug to us adults, but otherwise adults don't often have it. My husband and I got it from the grandkids. I think I had it repeatedly (not looked for in the one culture and not easily cultured anyway) because I couldn't lick it until I was put on doxycycline.

The language is American English for the most part, but a lot of Brits, Australians post. I'm in USA.
Here we can go to the facility that did the x-ray and ask for the report.
