I'm sure everyone has gone through this, especially if you have young children. Trying to figure out if you're coming down with a cold or an allergy problem...Sometimes, you may run into both at the same time, we've done this at our house! yeah
Most allergies don't cause fevers, colds do.
The mucus from an allergy is usually thin and clear in color, whereas with a cold it's sort of thicker and colored.
If you, or your child are sneezing a lot, and itching the nose, eyes, etc., it's probably an allergy.
Again, with a cold you sneeze, but just not as frequently and with a cold you usually do not itch.
Colds generally run their course in a week or so.
Allergies can be year round.
Make an appointment with your Dr. and let them make the call!

G'day fellow allergy people,
One more thing I'd like to say about
comparing a cold with allergic reactions.
Colds often begin with a sore/red throat- then the cold develops the other typical symptoms.
Hope you don't mind me adding this one in there Teri.
Cheers

I get sore throats with my allergies as well, so there are times that I really think I'm getting a cold and it turns out to be allergies. My allergist said it is difficult to discern the difference, but usually the gums, and other part of the inside of the mouth are much paler in color than they are with a cold. Both my daughter and I get what they call the allergic shiners, where the skin under the eye turns a darker color, like smudged eye makeup.

JustKeepSwimming, do you suffer from allergies as well? It seems that most everyone has found something in their lives that has caused them a problem or two! Take care.
Hugs, Teri
