Gerd can cause damage over time to your esophagus, lungs, voice box, sinuses, teeth, and epiglotis.
I had Gerd for 10 years. I developed benign stomach polyps, sinus infections, lung infections, damaged epiglotis, and 16 cavities. I'd loose my voice for weeks at a time.
Surgery to repair my weak LES (opening to stomach) and a hiatal hernia (part of my stomach was above my diaphram) has stopped all of the nasty problems for me.
Please don't think that an antacid with totally cure you if you have a weak LES. It just cuts down on pH of the acid. The acid is still there messing with you.
