So DD (will be 3 in March) had acid reflux bad when she was a baby...she was weaned off it right b4 a year old. We had NO issue of coughing till about 8 months ago when night coughs started (bad gagging coughing). After awhile we went to a ped specialist...where we were put on Flovent and Albuterol via inhauler...first cold again bam she was coughing like CRAZY gagging and all, they added liq steroids for a few days ... So we added Alvesco first sign of a cold on top of Flovent and Alburterol...next cold again bam she was bad...again added liq steroids for a few days through this cold. So we added acid reflux due to her history..I stopped Flovent and Alburterol...she went a good 3 months with out getting a cold and then again cold hit and story repeats itself...so with this cold we added Alburterol via neb and the inhauler was not doing a thing for her

So then we added Singular as of 12/27 and still on AR meds....she just got a cold and again all hell breaks lose

So as of yesterday we added Pulicort via neb

So we are now on Singular/Stopped AR meds/ Alburterol via neb and Pulicort via neb

Im just not thinking this is asthma?!

So last wed i went for a 2nd opinion and she agreed she thought it was asthma and took her off AR meds

Today I went to her sp. dr and he said he thinks it is AR and wants her back on Omeprazole....

Oh and we have an app with an ENT on the 28th

1/25 update
but seems to start becoming more and more during the day. This cough seems to come when sick..and when she is healthy she is 100% healthy no coughing. Well this last episode she only had a 3-4 day break and today she started coughing again (this time i dont see any signs of her being sick/cold). She has no other signs of AR so idk what to think....does anyone have a toddler that goes through the same and has AR?

My asthma bugs me when I am sick. I cough as my beginning of an asthma attack. However, I also cough if my acid reflux is really bad. I'm wondering if she has a combination of asthma and AR and allergies. The ent is a good idea, perhaps you can run an allergy test and see if its allergies. Teaching hospitals are really good in my experience, if you can't get any answers.

Welcome to the forum mama.

Couchtater and several others can tell you about asthma and respiratory reactions to acid reflux. Are you sure that reflux went away by itself? Did the child get any tests to prove this isn't the underlying cause of the gagging and coughing?

You might want to read the GERD forum posts or look for threads by inserting some keywords in the search box at the top of the page. I'd look for things like child, asthma, GERD, or reflux. That forum might be a good place to post too.

So again nothing is black and white...but with that said the scope showed her adenoids are large and so her tonsils (they are 3 out of 4). This would not cause her coughing fits though...but could cause her not to stay in a deep sleep as she could be snoring and waking herself up out of the rem (think that is what it is call) stage..therefore not getting the right rest and could make her sick more. The vocal cords were red (but again she has been coughing her brains out the last phew days so could be that)..if it is acid reflux causing the redness she has the LRP "silent reflux" and this is the harder one to deal with. So we r going back on AR meds and im going to try and learn more about how we can control it say by changing her diet (even though alcohol/caffeine are the big triggers and unless she is sneaking out at night she does not get this stuff).
>
> He did see her in one of her fits and he said she was def refluxing as she coughed and if he did see it he would swear she has whooping cough. He also thinks she has what they call a cough tic...this is were the brain keeps telling her to cough...so while she was in the fit the nurse ran and got her apple juice and while she was drinking it he was asking her about her pretty hat and she stopped coughing.....so more or less she gets herself all worked up and cant stop coughing.
>
> He now more or less said he agrees it is prob not asthma...so we are taking away the Albutroil but keeping the pulicort and uping it to twice a day till winter is over (not agree 100% with that..but will do it). We are also taking away the singular.
> So she will only be on AR meds 4 ml twice a day and pulicort 2 times a day.

> So for now im going to learn all I can on LRP/AR and read more on the cough tic.
