Hi Guys,

Just wanted to see if someone had any thoughts on an issue I've been having recently. A few months ago I started having stomach issues and reflux. Just shortly after I developed a rash on my forehead and shortness of breath.

I have since then eliminated the reflux but still continue to have issues with the breathing. Each time I step outside (I live in NYC) my nasal passages get inflamed. I also find it a bit difficult to take a deep breath or to take air in. Once things calm down I do feel some mucus accumulate but not a ton. I also get this when beginning to workout or go for a run but with no wheezing at all in either case. I'm not getting any other symptoms aside from these three. Had a chest xray a few months back and it came out clear. I also used to have asthma when I was very young but have not had it since (I'm 26).

I have been trying to determine if the two are related but really don't think so. Since then my reflux has cleared up (although I do have the occasional burping after meals) I really don't think this is the culprit and that the two issues are not related.

Just curious if anyone has experienced or is experiencing anything similar and can shed some insight??? Thanks in advance for the help!

Theyuw, Welcome to Healing Well!

Have you considered seeing an alergist and a pulmologist? You said that you eliminated acid reflux, but how are you doing that? Are you consulting with a doctor? Rashes can be caused by allergens, allergic reactions, auto immune disorders, flare ups with diseases, viruses, poison oak, medication side effects and that is just off the top of my head. What is your stomach issues? Could be an intolerance to something your eating and drinking? If you are not seeing a doctor, you probably should.

Remember, we are all just ordinary people here, and not doctors. We can't give out doctor advise, simply because we aren't doctors. We can share our stories, and things that worked for us, maybe it can help you with a few ideas.

Hi SmurfyShadow,

Seeing an allergist/pulmologist would be my next step. I am currently working with a gastroenterologist who like most, will tell you to take prilosec and then keep putting you on something stronger until you decide to go a more natural route. I focused on modifying my diet (although did not completely eliminate gluten/lactose) and supplements that will help strengthen the LES. Unless I have LPR I do not get any reflux anymore and no longer feel the stomach acid or burning in my throat.

I am thinking the next step would be to see if a food intolerance exists. This could very well cause the inflammation and breathing issues I am having. Just wanted to see if someone with a similar case had a story to share. Thanks for writing back.

I suffer from migraines, and food/drinks can be a trigger. You can do what I did to find an intolerance which is basically if you think of it as a trigger, a trigger for reflux. I picked up a notepad from Dollar Tree and I kept a journal of date/time/what I ate/what I drank/time symptoms started

Ie:
Monday, July 1, 2001
6am Coffee, Toast, Fruit
9 am Juice, Bagel, Cream Cheese
10am Migraine starts

At the end of the week, I looked for something "common" and took one thing out of my diet that was the same most days or daily for a couple weeks. If symptoms persisted, I'd restart that thing and see if migraines got worse or not. If migraine went away or was not as bad then that is a "trigger" and something to avoid.

Perhaps that is something that can help you.

That makes sense. I have a feeling there are certain triggers to my "inflammation". Thanks for the insight, I will start trying to isolate the factors that are causing this.
