Anyone have experience with Singulair?

I have had asthma for many years. In the past, it only bothered me when I did heavy cardio or was exposed to dust. I rarely used my rescue inhaler.

This summer was really dry & since I work outside in the dirt, the asthma got worse. I also had hiatal hernia surgery last year, which just adds to the chest discomfort. I'm at a point now where I'm so short of breath, I have to use my inhaler multiple times a day upon exertion. It feels like the center of my chest is in a vise. I use the nebulizer a lot. My pulse ox drops to the low 80s while just walking. Lung function/volume is in low 70s-high 60s. I've had so many x rays & CT scans this year I'll probably glow in the dark!

I had bad side effects to steroid inhalers, so I was switched to Singulair. Of course I read about the weird side effects and I'm hesitant to take it, but see no other choice. Has anyone used this medication? If so, did it help? Did you have any side effects?
I apologize for the long post, but it actually helps to write it down. I'm so tired of having breathing problems; it's consuming my life & makes it tough to keep up with my regular exercise.

So sorry but I had to laugh at glowing in the dark. I so know how you feel with x rays, ct scans, mri's so on! I took singulair and I still do, but seasonally. I had no problems with it. However, please remember everyone is different. It can go fine for one person, but horrible for another. It really helped for me. If it was consuming my life, I sure would try it out. Have you talked to your doctor about your concerns? They are far more knowledgeable than us, as they are the doctors. We're just all merely patients with the same diagnoses.

I take singular every night and I love it. It helps everything open up and I hardly use my inhaler or my nebulizer anymore. It also helpse to sneeze and keep everything from bronch tubes. Take it in the evening as it may make you tired.

I took singular for a few years had mixed results with it, over all was not happy with the medication and got off it. But give it a try to see if it helps you...many well wishes and keep us posted...

I have been taking Singulair on and off for many years. It is the first allergy medicine I found that I could tolerate, and it helps! It has been like a miracle drug. It takes away the burning in my lungs.
Unfortunately, I think it causes me some anxiety, sometimes anger. When I'm under a lot of stress, I pay attention to my moods because I get angry more easily. I don't take it all the time because of this.
I tend to have bad side effects from allergy meds, especially emotional reactions. For me, the benefits of Singulair outweigh the side effects when used responsibly :)

My allergist suggested Singulair when Benadryl, Allegra, and avoiding my suspected food triggers weren't cutting it. It seemed to work decently until day #2, when my face and truck broke out in a horrible rash. I looked like I had smallpox. confused I googled Singulair's ingredients, and lo and behold, it contains lactose which is one thing I'm fairly certain that I'm allergic to.
So that being said, I didn't really get an extended chance to try it out, but any one sensitive to lactose should steer clear of it (or at least the 10 mg pills; I don't think the 5 mg pills do; just research the ingredients!).
