Hi jomolstad, welcome to Healingwell. How old is your son? My daughter used to say she couldn't swallow certain foods but I think for her, it was her way of getting out of eating stuff that was good for her. Because she eats the same foods now with no problems. This was when she was younger around 5 or 6. If your son is older then I would listen to him and get him tested for allergies. Well either way, you should get him tested. Allergies don't always manifest themself thru hive or rashes. You can have various symptoms such as itchy throat, eyes or sinuses to more severe complications such as anaphalxis (sp?) shock.
