I remember when I first went into my Dr.'s office and didn't have a clue what was wrong with me - just not feeling well, sort of like a bad cold, and puffy eyes, a terrible wheezing in my chest along with a cough -- I was pretty darned miserable.  sad The Dr. came into the room and after an examination and testing told me that I had asthma and allergies and I would need more tests done to discover what I was allergic to.  Don't get me wrong, everyone was very nice! - but I was pretty scared at the time and really didn't 'get' everything that was said to me then.

I came to HealingWell after searching for answers re all this and found that maybe I could offer help to someone else by researching and putting info here for others to read, or being here for someone to talk to!! tongue

Though I can tell you, I am no Dr. -- I'm just an everyday person, a wife and a Mom, who happens to like trying to help others!

So please feel free as you are looking over the forum here to drop by and leave me a note and let me know that you've been here, what you'd like to see here, or if you have questions re allergies, or asthma - please ask!  smurf If you'd like, please start a new topic and help me to help others by putting up information that you've learned along the way...

I'd like to get to know you all, so I hope to hear from you soon!

Hugs, Teri tongue

hi terri so nice to be able to talk to you.  i have had asthma for l0 years, and use inhalers, i had a sinus operation 7 months ago, and my asthma got a lot better. until this month with all the humidity.  my daughter sent an environmentalist over to my house (and pd for it) to see if anything in the house was bothering me.  he immediately went to the laundry room and said "dont you smell that" and i said "no" well it seemed that 4 months ago i had put 2 big closets in the room , they were inexpensive from home depot.  well he said that they were emitting formaldehyde fumes, and thats what was causing my bronchial and allergy problems. and the reason that it took so long to  cause the problems was because the recent high humidity caused the closets to cure and smell.  before i remove the closets into the garage, does this make any sense to anyone out there.  i did smell the closets really bad when they were installed, but then i guess i got immune to the smell when he asked me if i smelled it.  i would very much appreciate anyones input on this. oh the closets are particleboard, and he said that this emits a very strong volatile  odor and is a common air pollutant.joanierav@aol.com  thank you very much

Hi Joanie! tongue

What an odd set of events for you!  I'm sorry to hear that you had to have the sinus surgery - my Mom had a type of sinus surgery many years ago and I don't remember it being very pleasant for her - I have to admit I was pretty young then so things may have changed since then and hopefully it went a little easier for you!!

I'm glad that they found the allergen that seemed to be causing your problems.  I located some more info for you and I hope it's helpful?!

Please take care and let me know how you continue to do!

Hugs, Teri tongue

oh yes they have come a long way with the sinus operation, it really was a snap. but anything invasive always puts my fibro and chronic fatigue syn. into a relapse.. so that was the bad part. plus the anesthesia is BAD hugs again joanie

Joanie, there is a link to the site under my signature in my previous posting to you - guess I should have pointed it out better.  So here it is again...plus I have more info on this, if you recheck the first page of postings here, I will bring it to the top.

Best Wishes to you Joanie, Teri tongue http://www.lungusa.org/site/pp.asp?c=dvLUK9O0E&b=35379

Joanie, don't do anything drastic til you know for sure that

is your 'offender'.  yeah

If you want to try pulling them out and saving them in your garage first that would be worth the trial to see if that is truly what's causing your current problem.

I'm glad you enjoyed the articles - please take care!!

Hi Teri,
I've just come over here from the fibro board, because I have asthma aswell,
as other things. Thanks for the link above, it had a lot of good information in it.
I think my asthma is coarsd by dust mites, insectisides and mould. I'm trying
to clean up my house, but this just makes the asthma worse. I have tried wearing
a mask but It doesn't make much difference. do you know of any speciel masks
made for asthma, or any other ideas.
thanks Shelby

Hi to Joanie aswell, we have a lot of MDF in our house, some of it is quite old aswell,
so I suppose I could be alergic to that aswell.

Hi Shelby and Welcome!! yeah

Yes, it is really hard when you're allergic to something and then have to clean it!

When you mentioned a mask, I was thinking...how about looking at Lowe's, Home Depot, Ace, somewhere like that to see if they have a sturdier type face mask.  My husband had to work in our attic and he used some almost alien looking thing - But it worked!

Let me know if this works!  You take care, Shelby, and come back anytime!
