Hi,

I am working on an university innovation research project at Vienna Business University that is about indoor air quality and air purifiers.

Our aim is to develop innovative ideas for air purifiers and since people with respiratory problems and/or Asthma are usually more likely to use Air Purifiers we hope to find people here who would share their experiences and opinion about ideas we have been developing in the last weeks. We very much depend support from communities like this here since it is the only possibility to get into contact with people having the experience to assess our proposals.

Therefore we are looking for people using an Air Purifer who would participate in a 10-15 minutes interview.
Any input would be very much appreaciated. You can either post directly here or send me an E-mail to innovation@gmx-topmail.de

Thank you very much.
Philippe

Frankly, room air purifiers and even the old static particle-zapping whole house purifiers aren't worth having.

I have a moderate-size, 1 story house with 2 furnaces because it's long. It's about 30 years old. It was originally built with an air purifier on each furnace. They didn't really do much, just better than nothing.

about 10 years ago I put in the large 4 inch thick filters. These work very much better than the particle zappers and ever so much better than the old-fashioned thin filters. I replace the filters twice a year. I only need to dust once a month.

The large filters do a good enough job that, although I have a cat, people who are allergic to cats don't have a problem when they stay in my house.

One thing about my furnaces - I have 2-stage blowers. I run the furnace blowers on low power all the time, 24/7/365. I was told they each use about the power of a 100 watt incandescent light bulb. A room air purifier doesn't cost any less and my filters do for the whole house.

I use air purifiers, I have a small HEPA in my bedroom, and a larger high capacity purifier for the rest of the house, but its only rated to capture 99%.
I have also installed a HEPA filter in my car.

I know they help me, especially during pollen season, and again they help in the fall during harvest\combine season; the only 2 times of the year that I experience asthma symptoms.

Also, you may get a laugh out of this, but when I'm tent camping, which I do a lot of, I sleep wearing a HEPA half-mask, difference is amazing, I never wake up runny nosed or stuffed up or wheezy when I'm sleeping in the great outdoors.

Hi,

thank you two very much for your experiences.

@Canada26: Could you provide me a link of what you are using for camping? Can you breathe comfortable with this kind of mask?
Since you might be considered a lead-user (wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lead_user) in that market I would really like to do a short interview with you either over skype or phone. If that would be ok for you, could you please send me a time that would be good for you and contact details via mail? (innovation@gmx-topmail.de)
That would help us a lot!

Best regards,
Philippe
