I am a 31 year-old woman. I have never had asthma or allergies and no family history either. about a month ago I was working in my yard all morning, then had some lunch and laid down for a nap with my son. I don't usually nap with him but started feeling really exhausted during lunch. Before I fell asleep, I noticed my throat felt a little irritated. I woke a couple of hours later and as soon as I stood up I felt like my lungs were very inflamed, chest tight and short of breath. It felt like I had a bad respiratory infection, but it came on very suddenly and without any other illness symptoms. I could breath and walk around, but it was very uncomfortable. From my lungs up to my neck felt very tight, swollen and irritated. No coughing at this point. I calmed myself down and sat in a steamy shower for 20 minutes which helped a lot. It seemed to resolve most of the way within an hour. I ended up going to the doctor that night because it really freaked me out. By the time I got there I felt almost normal, just a little bit congested and irritated feeling in the lungs. Nothing was swollen or looked wrong to the doctor and my blood oxygen levels were totally normal. He didn't have much of an explanation for what happened. I ended up coughing up mucus for a few days after this episode, but otherwise was totally fine and haven't had anything like it since. I exercise regularly with no issue and am very fit. That morning I hadn't eaten anything out of the ordinary or been exposed to anything out of the ordinary that I'm aware of. I'm trying to figure out if this could have been an asthma attack, allergic reaction or some other type of reaction, or if was just a virus that hit me really quickly. None of these things really seem to fit and it freaks me out not knowing what happened. Has anyone ever had something like this happen, or had their asthma attacks be resolved with just a steamy shower? Thanks for any input you can give me.
