Hello,

For the last 2 1/2 years out of the blue, I started breaking out in this rash or hives, from what I had believed to believe food allergies.  After many many tests, the doctors said I had no food allergies, and put me on a slew of different medications. NOthing ever worked. Nothing. The  only thing that ever kept everything in control was Prednisone. They had me on this medication from 40 - 60 mg daily. Never was alerted of the side affects. Gained over a 100 pds on this medicine. Did everything I could to get back off it, but then the breakouts kept re occurring. Finally after being to 11 specialists, and a multitude of different medications. I gave up on the doctors, and googled all my symptoms. Something called miliaria popped up. which is some sort of sweat rash. I started treating myself for that, and finally for months I had some relief. But every once in a while, I still get this flare ups, and if I don't go back on the prednisone I can't stop the rash (hives or wateva) from breaking out.  I got to the point where I was spending 3 hours a day in the gym, but I gotta get a life man. And with 3 hours in the gym on the prednisone, all that did was keep me from gaining weight. I believe that the miliaria is the main of the cause, but  Basically I still believe I have some food allergies or triggers as well, so I changed my diet completely as well in hopes to help. The only med I haven't tried is something called Accutane. It said online, that a regiment of Accutane for a month, should help unclog whateva is wrong. But it seems like this drug is very toxic (more than prednisone I guess) and theres like a million steps to go thru to get it.  As of right now all I eat now is  plain steak, chicken, turkey, and plain hamburgers, salad, and apples. Beverages consumed are  milk, and water. that's it..  ANY HELP PLEASE!! Tired of the nuicance Its not healthy or sexy. Thanks in advance

11 dermadermatologists. 3 allergists. Not alegic to anything according to all tests. But that doesn't mean I don't have food triggers activating something. Like I said I changed my diet and everything just eating safe foods.

There are very few drugs out there worse than prednisone. I'd try the accutane if I were you.

Thanks i m trying. nobody in my area can prescribe it. I may have had some luck, if not i may just order it from canada. Im really just trying to get off all the meds, and get back into shape. Staying 3 hours in the gym (just to keep from gaining weight), with 4 showers a day, is more than jsut time consuming. Its a pain in the ass. Wish i would of been told about this prednisone before they gave it to me. Gained over a 100 pds on that crap.

A dermatologist can prescribe it. I've seen it used for acne. You don't sound like you have acne. And by the way, I don't know how milk fits into your thinking about safe foods. Many people are allergic to the proteins in milk.

Perhaps you need to see a rheumatologist. They know things about the immune system that most other DRs do not.

yeah i live in the sticks. not too many docs can do it here. I tried eliminating milk before. But after working out it was eighther gatorade or milk. to keep me from getting faint. I figured milk was the better choice.

i seen a dermatologist today, he looked at me for about 45 seconds. and didn't bother to look at any of my notes (typical) . but said after i pass the required blood tests, they'll try me on it.. so hopefully it works.

Things that touch your skin can be the cause of skin rash.

Laundry detergent
Shampoo
Fabric softeners or dryer sheets
Skin creams and lotions
Sunscreens

See housemouse's story http://www.housemouse.com/sulfites.htm She nearly died of these and other products.

I only use All Free and Clear and double rinse my laundry. I don't use fabric softeners.
I avoid skin creams, even lipstick.
I use Neutrogena shampoo, but my head still itches.

I have allergic reactions to a lot of medicines too. Most of my problems I can relate to sulfites. I don't tolerate prednisone more than 10 mg, which isn't very much.

I have a rash, little bumps, maybe like yours. I was never given a diagnosis name. My allergist said to just scrub gently daily in the shower and use a skin oil afterwards. I have best results with a net scrubber and Neutrogena body wash. I can tell if I skip a day! There's no cure. All I can do is try to keep the sweat ducts clean and open. I get ingrown hairs too. Same treatment, probably all related.

My food intolerances include beef, but my reactions are gastric reflux and tachycardia, not rash. I have only the intolerance though, not the "true" allergy to foods (including beef) that contain sulfites. If your turkey is a deli cold-cut, it contains sulfites too. So does all store bread. Bakers call it "dough conditioner."

Housemouse gets much worse reactions than I do. I think Razzle gets bad reactions too. You might look up some old threads - see search box at the top of the page.

I have a journal from the past 2 plus years. I use only certain soaps cleaners n detergents. But in all honesty I haven't had nowhere near the success I've had after treating myself for this miliaria. It sucks to go months without flare ups than finally lose some of the fatness. Then u have a bad 2 weeeks and gain ten PDA cause of having to go back on the meds. Even got to the point where I wouldn't even eat when Ihaf to take the meds. But that just made me sick and I didn't lose weight

You said that you live out it he sticks, but is there any chance for you to find a naturopath? Perhaps someone who sees patients remotely via video? A naturopath is a doctor who works with patients and their diets to optimize health.

Be warned, unless you have copious notes about diet, beef, milk, eggs, corn and gluten are the first things you are asked to eliminate. There will be (expensive) blood, urine and stool testing. Supplements may be prescribed. You will get coached about organic and NGF's.

appreciate the input. i do have extensive notes on everything. no unfortunately though i have never heard of a naturopath. Im sure i can check. As of right now im just surrrounded by doctors who just don't care, and have the knowledge of a peanut. After paying for bloodwork today, the dermatologist wont put me on the dam accuatane because my white count is too high. Guess what when your on prednisone, thats what happens your white count gets higher. The dermatologist said thats not true. Well i guess myself, and all the figures online are wrong. I am really at my wits end over here. I don't have any infection, or any other reason to be above the normal count. Going to try to find a legitimate site from canada to buy this medicine.

Mycojones, I agree with asthmamom. Seek out a naturopath either in your area or remotely. I finally did this after years of getting absolutely nowhere with conventional allergists to treat my allergies and asthma. I finally feel like I might be on a path to recovery. Educate yourself on naturopathy and how it differs from conventional medicine. I use pharmaceuticals for short-term improvement of my quality life, but I am working with a naturopath to treat the root cause of my illnesses and to heal my body from the inside out. Best of luck to you.
