Hi guys.

I'm a 22 year old male and I have been allergic all my life. Recently I got some pretty bad stomach problems, and my doctor did a complete investigation of my allergies. It looks like I'm allergic and intollerant to a bunch of different stuff I didn't now about, mostly food but also some airbourne stuff. I have never had any asthma problems before. My IgE levels are 346 kU/L.

My whole life I've been dreaming about getting a dog, but I'm worried I will react to it. My doctor tested me for dog, cat and horse and it didn't show anything so thats great. Despite this I'm still worried that my immune system is in this "hyperactive state" and I will react to the dog anyway.

Whats you're advice here guys? Is it a bad idea for me to try it out?

Welcome to the forum,

I'd hold off on the dog for a bit until the allergies and intolerances are under control. No use confusing things!

After you get everything else figured out and aren't having any symptoms, you can always borrow a dog from a friend overnight or maybe for a couple of days. If you can't find one, shelters are always looking for people to "foster" pets until they can be adopted out.

Keeping a food journal for food intolerances can help with allergies too. Just write down your medications in the journal and put in your symptoms several times a day. You can figure out which meds work and which don't.
