Are you contemplating using an Alternative Therapy for your illness?

If you are, make sure you "Get the Facts"!

"Decisions about your health care are important--including decisions about whether to use complementary and alternative medicine (CAM). The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) has developed this fact sheet to assist you in your decisionmaking about CAM. It includes frequently asked questions, issues to consider, and a list of sources for further information."

There are many types of alternative medicines, or therapies.

There are herbal remedies, body and mind therapies, such as Tai Chi and Yoga, or meditation.  Some people have tried acupuncture and chiropractric treatments.  Spirituality and positive thinking are another area of healing.

If you have tried any of these methods, please let us know what has helped, or what has not! yeah

Hugs and Best Wishes, Teri tongue

Please remember to always ask your Dr. first before beginning any type of alternative therapy!

Teri,

Currently I am trying a colon cleansing alternative to see if it helps with my allergies!  I've been reading alot about toxins building up in our bodies and causing health problems, including allergies.  So, since I haven't seen the results that I was hoping for from all the different doctors I've been to, I decided to give this a try.  It's a 30 day cleanse and I was very careful in selecting it.  I went to the local health food store and asked for the best one...Now, keep in mind that I have delayed gastric emptying (slow digestion) and have a hard time completely emptying my bowels...the second day I was on it, I was able to "complete the task" and felt better than I have in years!!!!  But, since then I haven't been able to again.  I do believe it's working for me, but may have found one of the causes for my many intolerances and feeling sick everyday, so now I'm on the way to a colon, rectal specialist to see what they can do about my digestion.

And by the way...I read about the PillCam on the IBS forum and am going to try that, as I had an EGD and colonoscopy, with no results.  I'll keep ypu informed!

Anybody else find natural or alternative ways of helping???

Shelley

Hi Shelley! tongue

I just wanted to mention to you that another member posted on the cardio forum about a liver cleanse - thought you may want to check it out!

Thanks alot Teri!  That was a good article...I went to a Colon Dr. Friday and he said I also have a Spastic Colon (IBS)...he gave me some meds that are helping with bloating, gas, and constipation.  I am still doing the colon cleansing (Yes, he knows).  The combination seems to be helping tremendously!  I'm starting to believe that alot of my allergies are caused because my body is holding in to many toxins!  Now that I begun having more regular bowels, I'm feeling much better!!!!

I think I'll be looking for a maintenance cleanse that I can continue to take daily!

Has anybody else tried cleansing?

Shelley
