So have been having hacking and gasping fits for 2 1/2 to week weeks. I went to urgent care after a week and received cough syrup with codeine and bactrum antibiotic for bronchitis. After another week of no improvement, I went to regular doctor. I was told it was allergy related and brought on an asthma thing. I have only had mild seasonal allergies that just make me sneeze ans stuff up but is taken care of with benedryl or claritan. He did a chest xray that was good and my peak flow test before breathing treatment was 335 and 370 after. I am 36 and 5'6" Anyway, I am still having the same symtoms. It always gets worse as they day goes on and it horrible at night. Not stuffy, or sneezing, I just cant breath right. My chest feels heavy, I am really winded and when I start coughing, I start gasping. I have only been on the prednisone and inhaler for 2 days. Should I give it longer or call the doc again? I have not had to deal with this before.

What dose of prednisone are you on and what kind of inhaler?

Sometimes viral infections can trigger asthma, and if you are experiencing seasonal allergies concurrently it can get worse.

Do you have a lot of sinus congestion? Any post nasal drip? Was there a cold that started this whole cascade of events?
