Hello, I'm hoping some of you more knowledgeable than me may be able to help me with the mystery of my chronic allergies. I have had them since I was very young (about 20 years or so now). I used to get attacks about once a month (if that) and as I have gotten older they have increased in frequency. I now find myself getting one severe attack every week or so, and mild attacks anywhere from 2-5 days a week. This is the same year round. I live in a warm & humid climate. I take Claritin everyday but I don't think it helps. My only know allergen is dust mites and I have taken all the basic precautions but I live in an apartment with carpet so I know I cannot completely escape them (if they are even the cause of my problem).

A mild attack usually consists of only of my nostrils (they alternate) getting a constant tickle that causes my nose to run out of that one nostril. I usually have to blow my nose every 30 sec - one min. I usually sneeze a few times, will have some post nasal drip and maybe a mild throat tickle. This usually comes on in the morning or at night and lasts anywhere from a few hours to 1/2 a day.

A severe attack is usually a mild attack that continues on. The tickle is often more severe, and I usually have to blow my nose more frequently. I will also usually sneeze a lot more (sometimes 10 + times in a row). As the attacks goes on, my eyes will itch and get bloodshot, I get sinus pain, get very fatigued, and sometimes get chills. This usually lasts 24-36 hours and ends in what I would probably call sinusitis that lasts a day or so. No joke, I go through about 4 large boxes of kleenex with these.

Allergists have not been very helpful. I'm hesitant to try other antihistamines as I have severe chronic fatigue already and I am about concerned about sedation, and I also don't like the idea of steroid nose sprays (have had some family members have big problems with steroids). Does anyone know if what I experience (in terms of frequency) is normal? Has anyone experienced anything similar and does anyone have any treatment advice. Is there something I could possibly be missing here and is there anything natural to try? Thank you so much for your help!

Try raw Apple Cider w/water 16oz 4-5 times day for 6 months. Half your body weight in ounces of water per day. Before meals and at bedtime. This concoction cured Hay fever I suffered for 10 years. My urine is mostly clear. No symptoms of allergies even if I miss weeks of the tonic and drink only clean water instead. No Acne break outs. It's simple and cheap.

Try a hospital with a medical school. I have found that dealing with doctors who teach, publish etc. are much better than regular docs. I used to go to UMDNJ in Newark NJ. My allergies were so crazy that the director or the department made me his personal, case. He tested me every month for an entire year. Every month the tests were different. Doesn't happen very often. But he worked and worked and worked at it until we were able to come up with a solution. I did allergy shots for over 10 years. But it helped, a lot. No other doctor would have done what this guy did. You need someone who is into allergy and Immunology, not just allergy. Good luck.

Darah, great to hear you've found something natural that works for you! I don't seem to do well with ACV due to GERD (I know it helps many with GERD, but it also really bothers some) so I'm not sure I could tolerate that but I guess it could be worth another shot. I do already drink a lot of water. Thanks for the advice!

Allergicjerseygirl, I actually saw an allergist at Mayo Clinic but it was a quick one time visit when I was there for some other issues. He seemed knowledgeable he was very indecisive in terms of treatment. I think I would definitely need someone that would be willing to work with me to find a solution as you mentioned. That's great you have found someone so helpful! Thank you for the recommendation to look for a doctor that teaches and publishes and someone that does Immunology as well.
