I have been diagnosed with chronic bronchitis. I have coughing fits that last for minutes. My doctor says she cannot prescribe a hydrocodon cough mixture because I live in a drug infested area, and she can't substantiate prescribing 6 oz q30 days. The medicine allows me to be around people if I have to without coughing. People don't like when someone like me starts coughing that croupy cough. It allows me relief when I have coughing fits at night so I can sleep. She put me on Gabatapin. The side effects cause me to be uncoordinated, and my vision is so blurry I cannot see. It does not stop my cough. I looked this up and it seems to be the new "catch all" drug for symptoms that cannot be explained, or the extra work it takes to back up my cough medicine with good charting. Can anyone tell me if they have been prescribed this drug for chronic bronchitis

So I saw new doc in the practice because my GP was too busy with her snowbird population. This doc seemed spot on. He gave me a shot of steroids, Cipro and codeine cough medicine with 4 refills. I feel better after just one week, and am able to take my cough elixir prn, mainly at night. Shame on docs that won't prescribe a codeine cough mixture because she says it leads to addiction. I have borderline COPD and she wants me to take a psych drug to make me forget that I am sick. I guess drooling and walking about like a zombie is her idea of a cure! Thank God for good Docs who care about me.

I have had air borne and food allergies for years. Many years ago my doctor suggested that I clear up my post nasal drip, that was causing me to have bronchitis. Her suggestion worked like a charm and I have been using it ever since. Take 1000 milk clotting units of bromelain (pineapple enzyme) (2 caps every six hours) for six weeks. Also 500 mg quercetin (2 caps every six hours) for six weeks. Then reduce dose to 1 cap every six hours until symptoms are absent. Both of these substances are available in foods and will not hurt you. Ask your health care professional if this is right for you.
