Many products out there just list "Flavors" or "Spices" and I am having a terrible time with getting straight answers from manufacturers about if their products contain coconut, sesame seeds or sunflower seeds or their derivatives?

I am skeptical since I looked on the ingredient list of Montreal Steak Spice and it lists sunflower oil as an ingredient.

Has anyone else had this problem? If so what did you do?

I am quite allergic to sunflower seeds, but not the oil. The oil is purified and the protein, which triggers the reaction, is removed.

I tolerate sesame oil, but I don't know about the seeds.

I can't eat processed coconut because the processing uses sulfites to retain the whiteness. Fresh coconut is ok for me.

You have to go to an an allergist and get "challenge testing" to find out these allergies. Info on challenge testing is available in the archives. See the search box!
