Hi Mazie, welcome to Healingwell! There are a few causes for nocturnal coughing, one is postnasal drip, which can be improved with antihistamines, the second is having GERD and if you have this, avoid eating large meals before bedtime, propping your head up when you sleep and take antacids, and the third reason can be asthma.
My son had nightime coughing episodes when he was younger so the doc put him on an inhaler for seasonal asthma and his coughing stopped at nite so he was finally able to get his rest.
Soooooo right now my crystal balls says.............................other then those three possibilties I haven't a clue! lol
