Years ago I had a severe allergic reaction to an injectable steroid. Now, a physician that I am seeing wants me to take an allergy test for steroids.

Is there a risk I me being allergy tested for steroids when I already know that I am allergic to steroids

Thank You !!

I don't know about the risks, but there is allergy testing for steroids. I would only let a board certified allergist test me though. There are some general doctors who do allergy work, but they may or may not be trained in it.

You might find some more information in the archives. See the search box at the top of the page.

Thank you ever so much ! I have been hyper allergic to quite a few medications since I had serum poisoning back when I was 12 years old. I am now 58. And most of my allergic reactions have been very severe. So that is why I am very hesitant. Plus, it just seems redundant to be tested for an allergy to something that I already know that I am allergic to.

well i suppose like a lot of things, it's possible you are no longer allergic to steroids - but why exactly does he want to test you ? do you need to take some sort of steroid ?

He wants to include injections to a pain management plan. But it was in the past with another pain management doctor that it was discovered that I was allergic to steroids.

I started out in the doctor's office and ended up at the emergency room !
