I was "diagnosed" with chronic hives in October 2016. Up until about January 2017 I was covered head to toe in hives with no cure or reason. My doctors put me on 5-6 different meds and also steroids. I gained almost 20 pounds and I am a personal trainer/health coach. I was miserable to say the least. I have a history of thyroid disease in my family and I was almost positive it had to be that. My numbers came out borderline high but they still didnt think it was the thyroid... Hmmm.. they wanted to start me on Xolair which if you know anything about is TONS of money and TONS of risks. I took the first shot and paid way too much for it. After one shot, I did not want to continue. The steroids were working for the time being even if I was 20 pounds heavier. My doctor told me that most cases clear up within a year so I thought maybe that was my only choice. Like you all I read every thread, every forum, every website, called holisitic doctors, went on diets, took supplements, drank tea.

I FINALLY found one thread of a woman who was allergic to yellow dye... Hmmm... During that time I was taking effexor, birth control, singulair (for the Hives), predisdone (for the hives) THAT ALL HAD YELLOW DYE! Turns out I am allergic to FD&C Yellow dye... I went off of EVERYTHING and my hives are GONE! I am now in debt for emergency rooms, doctors visits, prescriptions when my doctors told me there was nothing I could do except for live with it. You may not be allergic to yellow dye but what I am saying is don't give up, dont stop researching, you know your body best and you will find your cure.

Head to toe hives are very scary. I have been on Xolair injections on and off since 2011(due to insurance issues). The injections have worked so well for me and they are so much safer than Prednisone. My specialist had assured me how safe Xolair is. Yes, it is VERY expensive but there is help out there to lower the costs. If you want anymore information, I would be happy to help. Xolair used to only be for chronic asthma and my specialist was one of the doctors on the medical team that got chromic urticaria approved under Xolair just a couple years ago.
