I have horrible seasonal allergies. I have gone through all of the prescription allergy medications over the years. Now, I use OTC allergy meds & Flonase so far has helped me a great deal. The very small amount of a steroid used in an allergy spray such Flonase, is so minimal that it would take years & years, even then its very doubtful a person would develop osteoporisis. I have osteoporsis & my dr has no problem with me using Flonase. As Lanie mentioned, Mucinex is great for congestion. This is recommended to me by my dr too. I had pneumonia a few years ago, was given this while in the hospital. You have to drink a lot of water with it to help thin the mucus.
Dry heat irritates the sinus situation. Not only do I run humidifiers, but I put a teapot full of water on the stove to help put moisture in the air.
