New to this board, though I've been lurking for awhile and this has been ESSENTIAL in helping me figure things out.
I've had chronic fatigue and crazy worsening head fog for 10 years. Two months ago i started getting daily headaches (which I now realize is) after starting a glucosamine supplement that had MSM in it. I got lazy and stopped taking the pills and the headaches mysteriously disappeared. . I had a hard cider the other night and got the headache back within a half an hour and finally a giant light bulb went out. The biggest one.. I don't really drink wine because it usually gives me a headache.
My headaches mimic someone else's on here. It feel like my neck turns into a rock and it creeps up the back of my head. My temples hurt. I feel like I"m carrying an extra 10 pounds on my head. The fog makes my eyes feel puffy and my sinuses under pressure (i had a CT scan, nothing there).
So yay, stopped the glucosamine/MSM and headaches are gone. but now i'm wondering if my head fog that has been crippling me for years is also a result. I've been vegan for 25 years and have been half heartedly been gluten free for a year, which probably rules out a lot of sources, but every year more and more junk comes on the market so it's easier to suddenly eat more processed foods.
I just had my favorite coconut yogurt and wham, head fog. Called the company, they said the coconut probably came to them with sulfite. INTERESTING. and makes me a little hopeful that maybe this IS a singular source of my issues?
So, i'm going through the foods I eat every week. It's not a huge list. I"m contacting the manufacturers.
But what about
tofu? I just downed an entire baked block. I'm reading conflicting information. Is there anyone out there who is NOT allergic to soy that can isolate it as a possible trigger for sulfite intolerance reactions? I suppose time will tell for me if I get better with an elimination diet. It's just hard for me to go any space of time at all feeling good. I felt great this afternoon which is why the yogurt was an obvious cause.
I also eat a chickpea pasta that has "organic tapioca starch". Any way to know if that could also be an offender?
The last one is a fairly recent addiction to Fever Tree Ginger Beer. i don't drink anything but water. but now this.. it's sooo good. Any one know if that could be a culprit? I may die if ginger itself is problem.
Other medical issues, some confounding:
-VERTIGO. I really hope this is related
-Delayed sleep phase disorder (they said I simply wasn't sleeping enough and prescribed nortriptyline which really DID help)
- Vit D was at rickets level and getting that back up also helped a bit.
-I USED to have food allergies- to almost all fruits and vegetables, but it all went away after I went vegan in my late 20s.
-I do not have asthma, but have had a few allergic (mold) asthma like reactions.
- Tachycardia? My resting heart rate is around 110.. I don't know why this doesn't concern cardiologists but I've seen a few.
-Arrhythmia - had it since I was five years old. Started taking Magnesium as part of the vertigo protocol, which it did not help, but mysteriously haven't had any skipped beats in two years since starting it.
Thanks so much to all of you for documenting, asking and answering questions. This is quite the vault of knowledge. And suffering.
