hello everyone, i have a few questions that id like to kno if anyone knows the answers too. for the past 6-8 months ive been having breathing problems. i was diagnosed with mild asthma when i was 6 but it went away and now im sixteen. theese problems are wierd though. everytime i breathe in i feel and here like a crackling noise in my chest. it doesnt happen every single time i take a breath but every few minutes or so. i was t0o embarassed because i used to smoke pot, never cigarettes, for about 3 years btu i was too scared to tell my parents until recently. we went to see a doctor and i got tested for asthma and i do not have asthma. im still waiting to make another appointment but does anyone think they might know what this could be?? thanks for listening! -gina

Hi Gina, welcome to the asthma/allergy boards smile Did your doc happen to say anything about an upper respitory infection? If not and you don't have asthma, it could be allergies. Does anything hurt when you are feeling this such as your lungs or do you feel heavy in the chest? I myself don't get typical allergy symptoms, I have a lot of sinus drainage and if I don't clear it from coughing or use of meds, I end up with a weird rasp in my upper chest especially in the mornings. Have you tried an OTC called Mucinex yet?

I too don't have 'asthma' but I do have hypersensitive lungs. And along with that, or maybe because of that, I have some major allergic reactions: from medications to foods; from insect bites to molds to chemical. Not to forget when I exercise.

Have you noticed you breath easier when you're not in school? Take note where you feel the worse. It could be moldy air in the a/c. But it could also be something like carpeting; either in school or at home. Take your notes with you when you see your allergist.

I'm not a doctor. But so much of finding what you're allergic to is just comparing one environment to another. I'm allergic to mold. If I stay in a hotel and the a/c is moldy, I have all sorts of symptoms. I'm allergic to pet dander. If I stay in an environment for too long where there are pets, I get various symptoms. This is all I have to go by. I've never been tested because I know what I'm allergic to- since I'm 62. And I don't plan on taking shots at this point.

:-)
