Hi all, Nova here..19 from PA. I'm also on the Ulcerative Colitis forum now. Pleasure to meet you all.

I have inherited severe allergies from both parents. My doctor has been testing and treating me since I was 8 or 9... he says I'm among the worst patients he's treated.

My treatment currently is weekly injections, Singulair, Benadryl, sprays, inhalers and in the springtime I usually get a DepoMedrol and/or Cortisone shot.

Well! I got my cortisone shot, and my DepoMedrol shot..... and the Depo is supposed to last for a long period of time.... it's been 7 days and my symptoms are back. The cortisone shot wore off in only two days.

I don't know what the hell to do with myself. I'm not respondent to ANY of these treatments.

What do doctors do when the patients are not respondent to treatments?

Hi Nova! What are your symptoms? If it's mostly nasal, have you been checked for a deviated septum or nasal polyps? What are your allergies to?

Hi Sherry!

Well my symptoms only occur in the springtime...so I'm guessing seasonal allergies... my symptoms used to be, asthmatic episodes, itchy swollen eyes, itchy skin, itchy ears, itchy throat and terrrrible sinus itch/congestion. Now that I've been on a number of treatments, the eyes aren't affected anymore, but everything else still is.

I have been checked for polyps and I do have a *slight* deviated septum..... but, I do feel that my symptoms are seasonal.. cause they go away once pollen season is over.

It's just so ironic how all these treatments have such little effect on me. sad

Don't you just love the seasonal allergies?? I take Allegra and Pantenol and it only helps alleviate my congestion but the horrible itchy throaty and eyes drive me nuts so I know what you mean. Have you ever had allergy testing and desensitizing shots? I'm assuming you've tried this already?
Some tips to help alleviate a few of your symptoms if you haven't tried it already: Keep your windows closed at all times, if you have a furnace/air condition running, use cheeseclothe over the vents (this helps trap any allergens), if you go outside for extended periods, change your clothing because pollen will stick to your clothes, use a mattress cover; one with an allergen resistance material (these can be usually found online), use a cool mist vaporizer, wash your curtains regularly, dust on a daily basis, avoid doing yard work or if you have to use a mask, if you have pets be sure to wash them regularly because if they go outside they can gather pollen as well, if you have any allergies to mold/mildew be sure to use bleach when cleaning the bathroom or a bleach containing solution. Sometimes these easy steps can help alleviate some symptoms. I hope this helps a bit.

Hi Sherry,
Thanks for the tips. I've tried a few but some I haven't tried yet smile Definitely going to tho.
Yes, I am on the allergy shots. Have been since I was 9. I'm really dissapointed that they haven't helped me much...but at least they seem to help others a lot!! smile
