I have this odd thing happening w/ my left eye. Everyone once in a while it just swells underneath. It starts to itch and it turns red and "balloons" up. Benydryl is the only thing that helps. Could it be an allergy of some sort? It only happens when I am at work so I joke that I am allergic to work!

Sounds like an allergic reaction to something at work. What kind of work do you do? Are you around chemicals alot? Even an office worker can be exposed to all sorts of toxins such as toner ink, white out, permanant markers etc. Does the swelling happen after you rub your eye?

I work in an office in a cubicle. My eye will really start to itch and it will swell if I touch it. It turns red also.

Hi ginger,

I have to same exact thing and just my left eye. THe itching and redness and then the swelling of my eyelid. It started a few months ago and I am still trying to figure it out. Definately an allergy of some sort. I have a post under cat allergy. I was thinking that perhaps it was a new allergy to a new cat. So I cannot figure it out as well. What works for me is an eye drop called panthanol... something like that. I dont have the bottle in front of me. It is a prescription. It is an antihistamine for the eye. It really takes down the swelling and itching. Perhaps you might try that. Wish you luck!

Thanks for the tip-the eyedrops have got to be better than the Benydryl. It makes me so sleepy! If only I could see my Dr. when it happens I will be all set..... Today I took a picture with my phone so I could show her what it looks like.

I use Pantenol for my seasonal allergies and it really does help with the puffiness and redness. Does this puffiness come at a certain time of day like after lunch hour? Do you go outside any during work? If you go outside it may be from pollen, mold, mildew etc. If it continues or becomes worse definately go to the doc and figure out what you're allergic to. My sister in law was having that trouble too and after a year of suffering found out that it was from the chemicals in the acrylic nails she was setting (she was practicing becoming a nail tech). We can be allergic to some of the oddest things thats for sure.

ginger, pantenol... which red mentioned is what i have tried and it truely seems to work. I think you will be happy with that. I myself cannot take the benadryl. As for what you are allergic to. It could be anything. I am finishing my series of allergy testing. Hopefully i will find out soon. WIsh you luck!
