I just went to see a doctor for dry burning eyes today. He asked if my eyes are itchy...I said No, just dry, sore and inflamed especially on hot days. He prescribed Patanol just in case it's an allergy but suggested I use an over the counter Tear Gel first. Used Tear Gel today and will let you know how it goes. Couldn't tell right away because it's not one of those hot days when my eyeballs feel like they've been rolled in sand.

I picked up Patanol anyways and maybe I shouldn't have because it was really expensive for a small 10 ml bottle.

I get burning eyes all the time and on the very worse days, I use Pantenol. I don't like to use it that often because after a while it feels like I have a foreign object in my eye. I looked at the side effects and sure enough that was one of them. Be careful of Visine too, it can have a rebound effect and make the burning worse over time. If it continues, ask your eye doc for something else.

My allergist perscribed Zaditor, 1 drop in each eye 2xs a day. It is MUCH TOO EXPENSIVE. My pharmacist told me not to use anything else, no over the counter stuff. She also suggested tylenol for pain. My eyes have been looking bad for a while and now they are feeling bad too.  One day I could hardly open them.

Sounds like maybe you should go see the eye doc if you haven't already. It may be an eye infection of some sort. Do you have any other illnesses that may interfer with your eyes such as diabetes, IBD's, arthritis, Lupus etc?

I do have arthritis. I have had two allergists tell me I have "allergic eyes". I had allergy shots for 17 or 18 years and take three meds for allergy/asthma, advair 250/50, flonase 2 puffs each nostril and singular.

Eye doctors are not as good at this as an allergist would be.  I would not take the eyedrop stuff except for the pain.
