Hello, I'm new. Two weeks ago I had my first serious asthma attack since 8 years ago. Each day was worse despite breathing exercises, acupuncture 3 times and albuterol inhalator 2-3times a day. Now am completing six days of methylprednosolone 4 mgm pac and feel my old self. Any suggestions for something to prevent the inflammation from returning? I was thinking singulaire or cromolyn. I want to avoid more steroids.
Peace and love to you all

Hello elder power
nice to meet you!
Ask your doctor about Singulair and I hope it'll give you the control your needing.
Don't know what else you could try other than maybe some home remedies, but always ask your doctor first even about home remedies. If your asthma is allergy related you could try finding and using local honey. Ask your doctor about stinging nettle it's used for allergies.
Try reading some of the other post.
Good luck and Hugs

Hello Elder Power, I am new today.  I have tried every asthma remedy there is (I think so anyway) and have found that for me the Advair Diskus keeps me 100% free of symptoms.  I have had asthma my entire life. For me it has been a Godsend!

Lovemy6dogs, I am going to have to agree with you about Advair Diskus. It works wonders. I am on it now Advair 500/50 and it really works great. Best controller asthma medication that I have ever been on. I recommend trying Advair Diskus medication. Best of wishes! have nice day! I myself don't rely on home remedies I myself don't think they really help.

Since you wanted to know about singulair I gave you my reply. However, I also use :
Asmanex, and Xopenex as my rescue inhaler with the singulair.
Advair works for some people just not for me so I did not recommend it.
for a short while Severvent (spelling?) was taken off the market, there is mixed debate about pulling advair off the market too.
It all depends on you and what would work good for you,
Stinging nettle is supposed to be for allergies that works for some people too.
just giving you an answer to your original question which was about singulair.
Ask your allergy/asthma doctor, what he/she would recommend for you that's your first step.
Hope this helps out better.
Take care and keep us posted

cool  They say that the serevent in some people with asthma has caused death. But, that is such a small number, and it is not the case with everyone. I believe that Advair Diskus is one of the best Asthma controlers out there.  My asthma, has improved huge since using Advair Diskus. I wouldn't take anything else. Have a great day. tongue

Advair Diskus helped me alot but found out hard way you have to make sure to rinse out your mouth throughly after using it.. I was rinsing mine out with water and found out wasn't enough and ended up with yeast infection in the mouth.. Inhalers, nabilizers can do same thing.. I keep mouth wash on hand for when i uses Advair, Inhalers or Nabilizers.

:-) Your right it can cause yeast infections of the mouth the Advair. I have been lucky that hasn't happened to me. Hope all is well with you. I use a good spacer with my albuterol, and that helps get all the medication in lungs. Instead of it hanging around in my mouth.

What I have heard about Advair-is that it (Serevent)can be most dangerous and has been deadly id taken as a rescue inhaler during an attack.  I have had few instances where I have taken Advair when I am wheezy, not having an attack, but not great, and it makes the tightness/wheezing worse. other than that it's been good for me. I've been on it about a year

hope this helps
