:-) Here is my situation. First started last Monday. Woke up with a sharp pain under shoulder blade upper middle part of back. Really hurt in the morning especially with movement. Felt like someone was stabbing me with something. Hurt alot to breathe in and out. Had a harder time getting air in and out. Hurt for few days. Had to go in for a pre-op the other day. Told my primary Doctor about what I have been experiencing and he told me it probably is Pleurisy. And my white blood count was high. And I had no symptoms of illness. I have been on a strong antibotic now for 5 days. The pain is alot better now. I m just wondering is this Pleurisy going to affect my surgery on Friday December 8th? doctor said I can have the surgery. Advice? suggestions? if anyone can help me understand Pleurisy better please help thankyou. Brandi.

I had my first Pleurisy attack when I was 5 years old. I remember my dad rushing me to the hospital because I writhing on the floor in pain. I've had bouts of this off and on thru out the years but luckily *knock on wood* I haven't had it in the past 10 years or so. I know this is extremely painful but as far as I know, this shouldn't interfer with your surgery. Here is a website that tells more about it.

Thanks Red for the input. My surgery went well last friday. They gave me an Albuter Nebulizer treatment right before Surgery, and that seemed to help me in the recovery room. I have been on antibotics and the Pleurisy seems to be all gone now. I don't have the pain like I did. It was really painful just to breathe. Thanks for the website information. Brandi.

Thankyou, Everyone for the replies, the Pleurisy is all gone. My surgery, went well. Had my stitches out yesterday. Have an infection though at incision site. On another round of Antibotics. Otherwise pain free. I had an asthma treatment right before surgery, and some kind of asthma treatment during surgery. That all made a big impact in the recovering room. My arm feels much better these past few days. Merry Christmas! and Happy New Year! to alll. Brandi.
