Hi! I post on the Crohn's board and was just wondering if any of you suffer from a red dye allergy.  I get the hivey, itchy, swelling reaction, not the hyperactive bonkers reaction that some people get.  I am grateful for the benadryl without dye.  Im really good about not eating anything with it.  I just get mad at how unnecessary it is to put dyes in everything.  My husband eats these cheddar ranch cracker that are SO good but I cant eat them b/c they have dye.  Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone out there has had an issue w/ their medications containing the dye.  My acid blocker from crohns does but I have yet to react to that b/c it is such a small amount.  I take it right before bed so if I was going to react, i would just sleep through it.  However, I was wondering if anyone has seen a compounding pharmacist for dye free cough medicine or other otc med. At least Wild Oats sells a lot of all natural, dye free medicinal products.  Thanks for your help!

Hello FitzyK23 Nice to meet you and welcome.
I have a very dear friend that has allergies to red dyes, So you are not alone in that. You, also have to becareful of lotions as well (hand and body) because some of those have red dye. I think walgreens and krogers can make up medicines without red dye, you just need to ask. So sorry you have this allergy red dye its in a lot of things. But now that you know you just have to read every label on everything.

knowing what your allergic to is half the battle won.

I have an allergic reaction to some red dyes. Take for instance red velvet cake... anytime i eat it i get really bad sick to my stomach... kind of like an allergic reaction to medicine. So i stay away from some types of red dye.
