Hi,

Last year I had an allergy test done by an ENT.  He found that I was allergic to cats.  Is it pretty safe to assume that I am allergic to dogs as well?

My wife wants to purchase a puppy and I want to get it for her.  Thanks for your insight.

Hi :) Being allergic to cats doesn't necessarily mean you will be to dogs as well. Most people that have pet allergies are allergic to their saliva and dander; cats and dogs have different saliva and dander. To be on the safe side maybe you should ask your ENT to test you for dogs. I'm surprised that they didn't already do that when they tested you because normally if they test for cat allergies they do the dog too. My hubby is allergic to cats but has no problems with dogs.

The answer is you won't know until your tested, unless you get sick when you are around dogs. I tested positive to dogs, the cat one was right below it and nothing, so I'm very allergic to dogs. Hopes this helps. It's just advise. Take care, keep us posted and soft hugz.
