Hey all. I recently made a trip to my doctor because I had been having allergy problems. He prescribed me Astelin and some syrup Rondec. I was told to take it for 5 days, which I did, and I didnt notice any improvement at all. Now last year, i went to a different doctor and he prescribed me Nasonex and Levequin. That worked, it cleared it up. But should I have to keep going? I also read that HFCS(High Fructose Corn Syrup) also can play havoc with allergies. Any truth to that? What should I do?

Maybe you should go see an ENT(ears, nose throat) Doctor. Astelin is for allergies as it is a nasal antihistamine. Levaquin is an antibotic and sounds like your doctor had treated you for an sinus infection last time and not allergies. You could try a saline nasal spray to see if that helps? If the ENT Doctor says that your sinuses look good, then try going to an Asthma/Allergy Clinic and getting allergy testing done. This is just my advise as I'm not a Doctor and I wish you well in what you choose to do. Lots of soft hugz to you and I hope you'll feel better soon. Take Care and keep us posted as to what doctor your going to and how it went, Okay..(((HUGZ)))

I just got back from my doctor. He said that this season was to be very bad for allergies, high pollen counts. He gave me a sample of Nasonex and samples of Levaquin again. Just like the last time I made a visit to him. He also gave me Clarinex to take after I am off of the other to see if it prevents my allergies from acting up. We will see. Hopefully it works like it did last time.

Is you doctor a pcp (primary care physican), Gp (general Practioner)? if so then maybe go to an alllergy/asthma Doctor and go threw the allergy testing you might be able to get allergy shots which could help you out better. A saline nasal spray can help clear out your nose too. you don't need a prescription for the saline nasal spray and sams club sells them, could help. Take care and keep us posted.........(((HUGZ)))
I've herad that the allergy shots can make a huge difference in helping and you might be able get those depending on what your allergic to.

Hey you can go to http:www.drugs.com/levaquin.html
Hope that helps to clarify things, take care and hugz

Hey everyone. Just thaught Id update you. Well the stuff my doctor gave me worked. But now I am on Clarinex and something is wrong. Ive been very exhausted and weak and have had a sore throat and headaches. I also have a white spot on the back of my throat, not sure if it is on my tonsil or not, but its where my throat is sore. I know these are side effects, but will they go away, because I sometimes don't want to do anything at all.

First, let me say - STOP taking Levaquin!  I didn't see anywhere in your posts (I don't think!) that you had an infection that was not clearing up - and levaquin is really a 'last resort' antibiotic to be prescribed, only for infections that are not clearing up.  There are a small but significant! number of people that have had terrible, irreversible allergic reactions/drug side-effects to levaquin.  It is not supposed to be prescribed for allergies!  If you have any problems that were not present prior to your multiple-times prescribed drug, go to any med/drug website that lists a drug's possible side-effects and/or allergic reactions.  I have a personal friend that is suffering greatly from the so-far irreversible side effects of this drug!  (She had been a very healthy, active girl, but is now confined to her home and being treated for chronic pain now, 3+ months later.)  I don't know if your change in health is due to any drug/med you took, but you know your own body, and you probably can tell if you have any new problems, or if something you took might be causing any changes!

Before you put any med in your body, I just reccomend that you  be fully aware of any/all possible side-effects that the med might cause, and weigh those possibilities like your life depended on it (because it does!)

I had the same problems as most of the meds only worked partial or seldom. Thru the University of Fl health clinic I found a new natural approach and don't take any meds now and I have been atack free all year. I believe natural is better. Cleanose nasal filters beat my clarit any day it just makes sence that prevention is much better than relief.
